Yes, but I was joking. I decided not to bother with the many examples of shitty hypocritical fundies I've met because, fuck it. Who needs more of that, you know?

Truly, I say unto you, they have received their reward.

Goodness!  I just have to say that I laughed pretty hard at this.  So very well timed.  After a pretty rough night at work, that laugh was needed, thanks!

My personal opinion is that morals exist outside of religion.  There are specific moral ideas that are shared and exhibited by most, not necessarily all, cultures around the world independent of having a shared religion.  Religion can further define, shape, explain the why's, etc, but at the end of the day it is still we who decide whether we follow the larger social expectations or not.

On the flip side, much of "morals" are open to personal interpretation. Then there is the situation where what is a moral imperative under one religion may be blasphemy under another.

There's a lot going on in this thread! I wanted to say, generally, that I don't think religious people are more moral, but I do think it's a common stereotype. If I hadn't left my birth religion, become an atheist, and then found a new religion, I might even hold that stereotype myself.

I really think morality varies greatly from individual to individual, and that there are good and bad people from all faiths, nations, cultures, sexes, ethic groups, and generally from every demographic. I have met good people who were religious, as well as good people who were not, and I've also met bad people who were both theistic and atheistic.
"The worshippers of the gods go to them; to the manes go the ancestor-worshippers; to the Deities who preside over the elements go their worshippers; My devotees come to Me." ... "Whichever devotee desires to adore whatever such Deity with faith, in all such votaries I make that particular faith unshakable. Endowed with that faith, a votary performs the worship of that particular deity and obtains the fruits thereof, these being granted by Me alone." - Sri Krishna
