Dolman Arch Course & Combining Courses Across Orders
« on: October 03, 2012, 03:41:26 pm »
Has anyone taken the Dolman Arch coursework from AODA? I was curious of your opinions and the contrast of this to other courses available out there.

I keep struggling with commitment issues deciding which course to study... being very new to Druidry, I would like to come away from the course without feeling like I plunged so much time/effort/money/finger-cramps into one, only to feel it doesn't fit right, or lacks what I am seeking...

I know myself to a degree as to some of what resounds with me, but as I am nearing my mid-thirties (gasp), I can SOLIDLY say, nothing is solid. I read through the forum postings and am amazed and humbled that many of you have researched so thoroughly and delved into what resounds with them confidently... I'm not there yet. But I digress... Please tell me honestly: will any course I pick regardless of any certain tone/influence/emphasis still be slightly/somewhat/very personalized to how I actually will and do function in the end?

Also, have many of you taken multiple courses at the same time? Is there a benefit beyond simultaneous viewing of alternative perspectives and exploding your mind with doubling up much coursework/writing? I know I can be a glutton for punishment, but I'm mildly curious if anyone else is one too and can offer the pros behind that craaaazy notion.

Thanks for any input!

I can guarantee that you'll learn something from any course you pick. Of course, that might end up being learning that you don't like the course.

More (and less) seriously... life is a series of learning. Pick a course you can afford (and can afford to perhaps not like), and work through it. I don't recommend doing more than one at a time, because you'll find more ways to procrastinate. Take what you wish from it, discard the rest, and move on to something else.

If you're worried about the money investment, see if they'll send you a small sampling of the course for you to look at first. Or find online training materials that are free. There's a free perpetual Druidry course at http://www.druidry.org that's nice.

Mostly, I think one has to let go of the idea that learning would be a waste of time if one didn't enjoy/follow 100% of the materials. No, I don't think anyone should slog through work they don't feel is useful. But... it isn't really like getting a college degree, where once you pass Calculus you're done with it.
