Sperran led us on an attempted read-through of The Twelve Wild Swans over in the Stories of the Spirit SIG, and we definitely petered out after not too long. In retrospect, it might've been better if we'd chosen one of the three paths for everyone to work on together- with everyone choosing their own, I think the conversation was limited and got a bit fractured.

That's a good observation. Hopefully, Tranceportation is focused enough that we'll be able to avoid that problem, but we should try to keep an eye out for it.

The group I'm thinking of was earlier than that one. I think. Tranceportation was published in 2008, so it could have been 5 years ago.

If this works out, maybe we could do The Way of the Oracle together next. :-)

I'd be interested in eventually trying out The Way of the Oracle as well. I've been reading through it sporadically and it makes it clear that Trance-portation should be worked through first, though there seems to be a lot of in-person group-based work in TWotO so I'm not sure how it would work out yet (and has been part of the reason I put it down since I do not have anyone around to assist with those exercises).

so, I've had Trance-Portation  by Diana Paxson sitting in my book case for about a year now and was talking in chat about how it was time to get down to it. Several people suggested working through it as a group.

I was thinking maybe we could do a chapter a month and share our thoughts here about it and how we are doing with the practical aspects.

Anyone interested?
I'm in. Just bought the Kindle version. :) I'm excited to get started!

How do people feel about starting this on the 26th of July, which is the new moon and then discussing one chapter a lunar month at a time?

Do we want to discuss the intro and the first chapter in the first month or do we want to split them up?

I'm happy to kick each month off with a post giving my thoughts on the chapter and asking questions about it but please bear in mind I have not had a lot of experience with either the books subject or with facilitating discussion in online spaces

I'm down.

So the first discussion would be on the 26th?

That start date sounds great for me.  I'll be home by then, so will be able to participate fully!  Either intro and first chapter together or sperate are fine with me.

I'm interested! Need to get my hands on a copy of the book, first, though - and the local pagan store is closed on Mondays. Something to check for tomorrow, I suppose. :)

Sure, why not. I was a part of the original "group" and just stopped due to life stress. Fwiw I dont know how much I'll be able to contribute this time around, but I'll try!

Do you have an e-reader or a Kindle app?* It's available as an ebook.

*You can get the app free for Android/iPhone and PC. Which you no doubt know, being a computerly type, but maybe others reading don't!

Will we be creating an official group for it or just starting threads on the general forum?

I dunno? I was thinking we could just use this thread? I don't know what other people think?

I'm not particularly fussed except I would prefer it if it was private part of the board (such as this SIG)

I liked having a distinct thread for each chapter, but my copy isn't here so I don't know if each chapter would provide enough content to warrant individual threads? On the other hand, having a single thread does keep the conversation together and more connected, and allows us to link things from chapter to chapter a little easier.

(My longwinded way of saying I have no particular preference!)
