Wiccan on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

The Real Housewives franchise is probably not too popular in this demographic, but I thought it was interesting when I found out one of the new cast members on RHOBH this past season claims to be a witch of a Wiccan variety.

I like the franchise, although I hadn't seen much of Beverly Hills (New York is my favourite, and I like New Jersey and Atlanta too). I started watching a few episodes of RHOBH out of curiosity, and it was pretty much what you would expect. Her name is Carlton Gebbia, and she lives in a mansion decorated in a gothic style with crosses everywhere. She has explained that she follows "Wicca," which she says is all about love, light, and Mother Earth, and that she doesn't go to the dark side anymore. She seems like your run-of-the-mill new age flake, and her kids even have names like "Mystery" and "Cross." I've heard she casts a spell near the end of the season, but I haven't seen that one yet. Like I said, I like some of the Housewives shows, but the Beverly Hills doesn't seem as interesting as some of the others. Two of the cast members are Paris Hilton's aunts, and let's just say that there are some family resemblances.

It's yet another bad representation of paganism in pop culture, but it makes for interesting TV. Maybe.

I'm curious on how Kathy Griffin would use it in her stand-up.  She devotes a section of her specials to that franchise and something like this would be too good for her to pass up.

I haven't seen this, but one of my friends at weekly game night keeps ask me questions about her. This woman (on the show, not my friend) is just f'ing wacko from what I'm hearing. But, you know, what would you expect of an alternative lifestyle on reality tv?

She seems very hypersensitive about her religion, and accuses people of bigotry if the are uninformed and question her in any way. One of the other wives asked her if her pentacle tattoo was a "Jewish star" and the Wiccan lady flipped out and got really offended. The other wife is Jewish herself (sort of, she converted when she married her husband), so the fact she can't recognize her own religious symbol (or that it's called the "Star of David", not a "Jewish Star") indicates she's most likely just an idiot, not a bigot.

If I were feeling generous, I'd say that it was probably an act on the parts of these ladies.  But since I lost track of how many members like the Wiccan lady we've had over the years, and I don't doubt that there are people who are just that stupid, I'm unwilling to give them a pass.
