Music to Summon Spring
« on: February 27, 2024, 02:41:49 pm »
You can almost taste it; the days are longer, and if the temperature dares to climb, the air feels fresh instead of biting. When that happens, when that first hint of spring seems to make the whole world rush with excitement, I find my heart bursting with music as if I were a songbird suddenly compelled by the hormones of the season to proclaim itself. Invariably this tune pops into my head, and as soon as I have access to a sound system I have to play it, half thinking that Nature will hear me and fulfill its promise sooner:

That's my musical invocation to summon spring; what's yours?
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

All righty, let this be my contribution.

The Poxy Boggards: "The Rooster, The Donkey, The Dog, and the Cat."

I always associate these guys with spring. Why? They're a fixture at the springtime So Cal Ren Faire. I worked it for a couple of seasons, and I remember firing up the Boggards CDs in late Feb, getting in the spirit for the upcoming shows. Lots of early days, long days. Lots of workshops. Lots of Guinness.

Anywho, when I think of spring, I think of sunrises. And this is a... well... a rising song. Sing it with me, kids!

You have my sword
And my shield
And my... um... slacks.

I think that's the textbook definition of ribald!

Still a few weeks to go here Up North.

But I'll use this excuse to share my current favorite most energising song:

A Reminder:
Hi, SirPalomides, and Altair as well,

Just a quick note:  When you're responding to a post containing an auto-embedded link (such as YouTube as in this case, but Twitter links also do that, and possibly others), please remember to remove the link from the quote so that the auto-embed isn't repeated.

(Trimming quoted text to only what's necessary for your reply [you can even trim all of it out, as long as you take care to leave the opening and closing quote code - the parts inside square brackets - intact and on separate lines] is advisable in general.  It makes the discussion easier to follow, and, especially in the case of long quoted posts, it's required by our rules.)

This isn't a formal warning, just a reminder. No reply is necessary, but if you have questions or need clarification, please feel free to contact a member of staff privately.

Thanks!

Since 1996, a staple part of any Brigidfeast (Imbolc) ritual I do, solo or group, has been lighting candles (a good way to make use of partially-used ones, since the more candles there are, the more effective this is) one at a time while singing along with George and his cronies:

Here where I'm wintering in Southern California, there's a gay bar that holds an outdoor retro disco dance party every Sunday afternoon/evening, and us regulars have grooved to that tune any number of times. Love it!
