Don't know if this is available everywhere but I can recommend this he BBC adaptation of this book.  One part period drama one part magic with some great performances.   
Some of the magic effects really push the  budget for a BBC show.

Amazon's selling a digital copy for $20.

I picked up the blu-ray on my lunch break.  'Bout halfway through Part I now.  Loving it.
