If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Anyone watch History Channel Vikings?
« on: April 10, 2013, 04:50:14 am »
Anyone here watch the History Channel's scripted drama Vikings?

What do y'all think? Like it? Love it? Hate it? Think it should be continued? Annoyed by inaccuracies?
Think it'll lead to more people investigating Paganism?

I'm in Australia so it's kind of hard to get a hold of, but I've seen the first 5 episodes. Personally I love it. I didn't at first. But then it grew on me.

I absolutely love the show. I don't know the accuracy, but it is SO entertaining. I go to my parent's house every weekend to watch it with my dad (before it ended, we watched "The Bible" together also).

I like how the story has the religion as THERE, but not necessarily the main focus. I think it reminds the audience that religion was so much a part of their lifestyle, they didn't have to THINK about it, they just lived it.

I love the show, especially Floki's character.  I also like the depictions of Odin.

Not sure of the accuracy of everything.  Given that they were really a right nasty bunch, the show seems to glorify them.  Not saying it's bad, it's quite enjoyable.

Floki is AMAZING!!!

It does seem to show that they weren't just barbarians. Violent yes, but they lived in harsh conditions and their lifestyles reflected that. Plus they aren't shown with horned helmets.

The last epsiode when they were explaining Ragnarok, fantastic.

That scene was incredible - and I love Floki!

I also enjoy Rollo maybe more than I should.  :ashamed:

This show has taken over from Game of Thrones as my Sunday must-watch show, and that is saying quite a lot.  I hope it doesn't start introducing so many new characters and storylines that each one only gets two minutes of air time per show.  Yes, Goerge R.R. Martin, I am looking at you.

I dislike Rollo so much. I want him to get the axe eventually.

See, I have this philosophy: if I'm late to the party and there's too much stuff pre-existing to figure out, I wiki the crap out of it, and will MAYBE watch it later. This is my relationship with "Game of Thrones. :P

Well, I'm not exactly proud of my ...erm...fondness for Rollo.  :p

I started reading the GOT series like 15 or however many years ago when it came out, and really enjoyed it the first couple of books, and have kind of stuck with them as he added a bajillion new plot devices and characters just to keep up with the characters I love.  But I sure skip a lot of pages now!

I watch the tv series with a similar mindset, but it is frustrating to have the plots I am interested in only get like five minutes every other episode.  Ah well, alas, the world does not revolve around me.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I hope Vikings keeps its tighter focus.  And that Floki keeps rocking the guyliner and that if Rollo has to get the axe, he does it shirtless.

LOL, Floki definitely rocks the guyliner, and I hope it's Ragnar or Lagartha that axes him. It seems the focus is going to stay tight, especially since some of the events in the last episode were not wrapped up (I'm not going to spoil it because people SHOULD watch it).

I really want to see it but I haven't found it online yet... youtube is for once not so helpful.

History.com is streaming the latest episodes, but the story has a flow that needs a beginning to start filling in the blanks (episode 3 I think is the earliest online). But you can jump  right on in and geek out with the rest of us. :)

OMGs I love this show so much. Heads up, last episode of season one is this next Sunday, and they're already planning season two.

I've finally gotten around to watching this show! Broke down and bought Season 1 digitally on Amazon. I also got the boyfriend hooked on it. ha.

I looove Floki. Skarsgard does an awesome job with that character! And as a teacher of mostly special ed students, I find the treatment of what seems to amount to autism spectrum disorder so refreshing. Like... I can see him growing up: "You're good at building boats? Go build boats. Here's an ax."

And I also hate Rollo but love looking at him. lol. I find it interesting because Rollo "looks" like a "good guy" and Ragnar "looks" like a "bad guy" to me, but these characters are ambiguous and definitely not that clear cut.

From a pagan perspective, I mean, it's a tv show, so there are some liberties of course (the shaman guy... what?), but overall I dig it! They certainly put a lot of research into the show, from the women's brooches / jewelry, to the prevalence of arm rings, to them washing their hands and blowing their nose in the water, to the discussions of fate, to the treatment of the female slave at the funeral.

I appreciate the treatment of the battle scenes... relatively speaking, they're pretty realistic. Just some guys climbing a 10' fence. Just 30 - 40 warriors on a beach. Love it.

The hair designs on the show slay me. :)

I have a few episodes of season 1 left, and season 2 starts tomorrow!
