2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 13 Sept 2019: $656 donated. $6 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

I doubt that would make you a hypocrite.

Probably not.  But who am I to judge?  I like Jeff Jefferies (a notorious comedian who is a professed atheist), especially his bit "God is drunk at a party."

I wouldn't call that song anti-religion.

It's about the horrible things people do *in the name of their god(s)*, not about religion itself. This song is decrying the terrorism, war, persecution, etc. that people justify by claiming their religion demands it.

So, no, I don't see that as hypocritical. At all.

I like this bit, too! I'm also a fan of Carlin-who wasn't the biggest fan of religion, either. I think understanding the atheist perspective is healthy and respectful, not hypocritical. Also, being able to laugh at things pertaining to oneself keeps you humble.

I own far too many Bad Religion albums to judge anybody else.

I think that's an interesting question. It kind of brings up what is being a hypocrite? It means doing things that aren't what you say you believe. For me, I don't believe in anything in particular, but also a lot of stuff in particular, so it's hard for me to be a hypocrite. That's not entirely true - I have lots of beliefs, and they're mostly in the philosophy and ethics zone.
