* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Orange.

And I was not aware of that. Would you have a link lying around?

http://edition.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/Movies/9906/09/jar.jar/ sums up the controversy, I think.

The accusations seem rather... vague. It seems, it feels... there's no evidence presented.

The article doesn't even mention his dialect being slave cant.

Honestly, I can't see how the article could possibly support stating that he's a racist character as a flat fact, much less support the assertion that his dialect is slave cant.

unfortunately, I don't have handy what I had at the time.  I remember there being a LOT more about it at the time - including point-by-point analysis.  It's .. it might not have been INTENDED racism, but it sure as hell quacked like it.

Well, my googling has turned up nothing that looks like anymore than the usual unevidenced controversy over stereotypes. Vaugue and lacking in evidence, so you'll forgive me if I take a position of tentative scepticism.

Lest you blame privlege, I'm equally sceptical of accusations that he's a homophobic stereotype. The whole controversy just seems to be reaching for straws, especially given the more obvious racism in Ep 1.

On a lighter note, if anyone wants some Star Wars to tide them over, Star Wars Downunder is on my top ten must watch fanfilms list. Just watched it with my Australian mum, who thought it was side-splitting.

You might find this article to be more substantial.

Myself, I thought the combination of 'exaggerated stereotype of Caribbean dialect' and 'exaggerated stereotype of lazy ne'er-do-well, of the sort frequently attributed to black Caribbean islanders' was blatantly obvious. Is it intentionally racist? Probably not; it's intended to be comedic... but 'funny' doesn't magically erase the racialized stereotypes the humor is built on, even if one considers Jar Jar to be successfully humorous.
