Search For Path Without Clear Vision
« on: July 19, 2012, 07:30:12 am »
(Serious thread. Also, best place for it? Unsure.)

The reason I went looking for a forum to join is the topic of this thread. I am looking to branch out my Craft "skills". Specifically, I'd like to pick an area or two to focus on, rather than just general mediocre fumbling around. I'd like to really find my true Path. Obviously I've been doing my own research and spiritual searching. But I like outside opinions, too, so I'm asking you guys.

Trouble is, I'm only really good at three totally unrelated things:

 - reading my own Tarot
 - foraging wild plants
 - the occasional obvious sign from the spirits

Frown. I've been poking at the spirits for a guide, but they want me to figure it out on my own, apparently. Some ideas I've been thinking of:

 - Other forms of divination, like pendulum or runes.
 - Focusing on stronger spirit-connection through shamanistic methods.
 - Wildcrafting amulets/fetiches from foraged items.

But I have yet to have anything strike me very strongly.

So that is my question: how do I decide? Do I just start poking at all of them and see what sticks? Do I keep giving offers and asking for answers from my spirit guides? Or, from a more practical perspective, do you have any suggestions based on what you know of my abilities?

Poke away! Thats what I do.
If I try something or look into something and it really intrigues me I keep going. However, there have been a lot of times where something bores me, or I just don't feel connected to it.. in which case. I walk away and "poke" something new!

This sounds as though you're assuming your "true" path is something externally determined, with which you must figure out how to comply.  Try a paradigm shift; think of it as something internally determined.  See if that opens up possible directions to take.

This comes up often for many people. Me included at one point. And reading yours made me write a too long essay about being happily without path. Don't worry, I wont post it!

But I will say I think you half answered your first question already. When something does strike you very strongly your decision will be made, no? Only you know how strongly it will have to strike. Until then, why not have fun poking about? Why not keep working with your spirit guides and honing your skills and learning new ones?

There is a freedom in being without a path that allows for experiencing so much. And  it is possible for your inclinations to lead you to your path.

I haven't found a set path yet. If I never do, I'll be learning new things until I die. And while I'd like to know what it feels like to want to dedicate myself to a path and follow through with it, it's okay by me if I don't get that call. I'd like to look myself in the mirror and know my faith is real and not something I just wish was there. So I keep poking too.

If I see you on this very crowded pathless path, I will wave.

This is partially a psychological issue I have; a lot of how I think is externally determined, because I don't trust myself. Much better nowadays than when I was younger, but I definitely see things from the outside-in, rather than the other way around.

Because I'm impatient. :p

Recently I read on someone's blog (uhhh...Witch of Forest Grove? I think?) about getting stuck in Paganism 101, which is sort of my problem, only it's more like I'm stuck in Sophomore year than as a Freshman. I've got knowledge and some skills, but I don't feel like I'm DOING anything with my beliefs, I'm practicing them but not APPLYING them to anything of value, and I'm dissatisfied.

(I should note I've just been plowing ahead with my practice and research, and feeling generally better anyway. Trusting my instincts is something I need to do more often.)
