It's also probably delicious.  My brother-in-law makes this dish consisting of L'il Smokeys, pineapple chunks (and juice), and about a gallon of barbecue sauce.  In concept, it's abhorrent, but whenever he brings it to a potluck, the crock pot is practically licked clean.  People look for other things to dip in the sauce when the sausage and pineapple are gone.

I don't get it and never will.  This is why I'd probably suck at alchemy.

We've always taken Li'l Smokies and put them in some melted down grape jelly mixed with a little cayenne or black pepper.  Evidently it really is a southern thing (I thought my mom was just nuts), and not as bad as it sounds.

That's interesting.  I'm from up north (the Great Lakes region) originally and we always made the Li'l Smokies in a mix of grape jelly and ketchup, no spices, in the crock pot.  Of course, I get funny looks for putting ketchup on my scrambled eggs as well, so maybe my people just enjoy adding ketchup to everything that comes our way.
