Apparently I'm Writing a Book
« on: July 11, 2013, 05:55:12 pm »
So apparently I'm writing a sort of guide/support for Pagans without godphones, who aren't priest/esses, spiritworkers, or what-have-you, just average people trying to honour their deities.

Apparently there is an audience for this kind of book, because I pitched it on tumblr, Facebook, and my blog, and the tumblr post has something like 89 likes now (this is a lot for my posts).

So I think I'm going to write it.

It's not going to be a very exciting book, there won't be a lot of rituals or meditations or anything like that. It's more about doubt, self examination (with the caveat that I am not a therapist or psychiatrist or anything like that), critical thinking and research, and how to trust your gut.

I'll be publishing it myself, so no need to worry about a company like Llewellyn cutting content to fit their guidelines.

I'm pretty sure I can do this.

Please do. Such a book is sorely needed.

I'd be interested in that for sure, even though I fall somewhere in between head-blind and god-phone. (I guess that makes me god-pagered? I dunno.) Definitely looking forward to it.

Yes you can! *dons cheerleader outfit and shakes pom-poms*

Just tried to reply to your PM, and your mailbox is full. One of the things that'd make it easier to do that particular conversation is moving to email: want to email me through the profile link, and we can go from there?

(Brain-foo and having a couple of other major things on tap at the moment means it's a lot easier for me to work on complicated stuff when I can save drafts and work on them over time.)

I just emptied it when I got the message that it was full. I need to go to bed now, but I'll shoot you an email tomorrow. It'll be easier for me to go a bit more in-depth that way.

Yes you can! Si, puedes!

I didn't think I could write a book...and then I watched a good friend who works full time just like me get it done (AND get it published), and the excuses fell away. Inspired by his example, I finished my book about a month ago, and after letting it rest, I'm about to plunge into the revisions. So YES, you can absolutely do this.

Morag, throw me a pom-pom. Lokabrenna, consider us your human pyramid!
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

I feel stupid... What's a godphone? :ashamed:

On another note, I'm an average people trying to honour my deity. :p

This sounds amazeballs! I really wish you the best of luck, since this sounds like what a Pagan 101 book should be about rather than a list of steps and tools with pretty girly pictures around it (ala $RW). I think we so often forget that we need our own relationship with our deities and to stop worry about the whole "is it pagan enough" thing. Good luck to you!

Godphone/godbothered means that the conversation with one's gods goes both ways, that the gods communicate directly to a person. It's rewarding, frustrating, annoying, and the ride of a lifetime in more ways than one, but it's not the norm.
