I could not think of a better term than Christo-Pagan, although I only worship Christ.

I struggled a lot with Christianity growing up, because of the way it was presented to me. I dabbled in Agnosticism here and there, but always believed in a Higher Power. I was drawn out of my Protestant upbringing to the Catholic Church. From there, I found the Eastern Orthodox Christian Church.

At that Church, I feel like I am home. I feel intense peace and belonging. Yet, I still believe that religious beliefs fall on a spectrum. I dabble in energy work and Tarot cards still, but not in anyway that runs contrary to Christianity. I use energy work and Tarot readings as my own inner insight.

Is anyone else like this? I still feel weird about it, because I know many Christians would reject me upon hearing this, but at the same time, they are my true feelings.

I also tend to think these practices you mention do not strictly belong to one religion or type of spirituality.  There have been important Christians in the history of the Catholic Church I've come across here and there that believed in and practiced the Tarot, but I can't recall specific names.

I might be in a similar boat to you, though I do not identify as Christopagan.  I made another thread that goes into more detail, but I am basically a panentheistic, animistic Episcopalian (Anglican).

In many ways, the way I worship and pray is like that of an average Episcopalian (Anglo-Catholic specifically), but I also practice my own rites and rituals which, though very centered in my Christian beliefs, also include my personal spiritual experience.  This aspect of my spirituality I practice in solitary, only very rarely including one, at the most two, other persons.

*raises hand*

ohai there!

I just started doing this, actually.  I'm still reading about it, but I've heard that magic is not actually foreign to the Bible... it's just foreign to the current understanding of the Bible.  There seems to have been at least some Divination going on without censure from God (like Joseph scrying in his silver cup and whatnot).  And what about these "wise men" from the east who saw the signs of Christ's impending arrival?  I'm just sayin'.  I don't think we're as far in left field as a lot of other Christians would have us believe.

And what of the "latter days" when all these prophets, prophetesses and those who see visions and stuff?  And what of the Bible saying to "test the spirits?" Well, I don't know how we're going to be testing any spirits if this whole magic thing is a non-issue in Christianity.

k, I need to hush now.  I'm new here by the way.  Hi!

The problem I have here with 'Christo-Pagan' is as follows:

John 14:6 'Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.' ...

Also there is the Necene Creed.

Speaking as a Thelemite I find myself wondering how it is possible to do any occult stuff (Tarot etc) and be a Christian of any variety?

You have chosen an interesting journey, I wish you well in it.

One thought, the Vodoun practices and Santeria do have work with saints, jesus etc but not I think the Necene creed, good luck.

None of that necessarily involves other deities. Most Christians who practice divination, magic, etc. believe their abilities are gifts from (the Christian) God.

Same. The people I know who are into traditional Southern hoodoo who are Christian rather than pagan also believe similar.

Yep.

Also, not all Christianity is Nicene.  There are several esoteric, 'mystical', or 'gnostic' variations outside the mainstream who don't subscribe to the Creed, or the historicity of Jesus (although not ruling it out entirely, it's just not a condition of their faith) and they very much identify as Christian.

Also also, it bears pointing out that just as there are many ideas of what it means to be Pagan-Pagan, or Christian-Christian, there are likewise many different ways to be Christo-Pagan.  Just a thought in case anyone decides to have a problem with a term.
