2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

I'm really enjoying it so far. It's very powerful. The first myth really unsettled me for some reason. I had to walk away for a few hours. You, sir, are a great storyteller. :)

I'm blushing, weirdfaery!

Hanging this here, but thanks as well to Olivia and everyone else for the praise and support.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

I wrote a book!

It's called Songs of the Metamythos, and if you've ever wondered what myths born today might look like--who these gods are, and what truths their stories might tell--this is for you. There's also a secret woven through the book, which I challenge anyone to decipher.

But rather than bore you with a lot of talk, you can see for yourself at the book's very visual website:

http://www.SongsOfTheMetamythos.com

The book is available in both print and e-book formats from Amazon. Also note that for a limited time for Cauldron members, I'm offering Songs of the Metamythos for free. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks!

Very cool, Congrats!

Just hanging this here, but I've finally finished your book, Altair!

Absolutely beautifully written. I'll be buying the paper copy when I have the funds.

OK, Raine, you just made my Christmas!

Thanks, everyone, for the congrats and kind words. Have a Merry Christmas if you celebrate it, secularly or otherwise!

I should point out, on page twelve at the top, there's an 'I' that isn't capatalized where it should be.

Nope. It's correct as is. Keep reading!

Ooh, is that part of the puzzle in the book? (Sorry that my mind hasn't been in puzzle-seeking/solving mode, so I've just been enjoying--a lot--the writing and the story itself. Great stuff! :ange:)

There are 2 reasons for it, but yes, one of those reasons is the book's puzzle.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell

Dang.  Well I've only gotten through the first chapter, because I've gone back and re-read several passages.  It looks very simple, at first, but damn there's a lot to unpack.  Also the prose is elegant.  Well done sir.

As an aside, have you looked at any of Gaiman's Sandman series.  I got the first book for Xmas, and the world he created comes with its own mythos.  Given your comic book background and your love of myth, you might find it interesting.

I deliberately haven't ever read Sandman, because from what I'd heard it sounded sufficiently similar to what I was smithing that I didn't want any undue influence. Now that I've finished my book, I could tackle it.

In fact, the first Gaiman I've ever read was American Gods--again avoided until now so there wouldn't be any influence. I finally read it a few months ago, since I'd finished writing Songs of the Metamythos. Not really similar at all: AG plays with existing myth in a modern context, while SOTMM is new myth.

Anyway, thanks for the praise!

I want to let you know...

I was cruising around Amazon yesterday and I spotted your book! The reviews look pretty positive about it, too.

Here's hoping sales continue to soar.
