2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Help me help others

As I've mentioned before on the forums, I'm currently in the middle of a BSN nursing program. Every year my school selects a handful of students to participate in their global outreach team, providing medical care to some of the most resource-starved areas. I have been picked to participate on Team Haiti, and will spend my next spring break working in a pop-up clinic in Haiti's Central Highlands.

Although we will be receiving some donations of  over-the-counter medical supplies for our trip, and accommodations are being provided by a non-profit owned by one of my professors, the team still needs to fundraise to purchase airfare and wholesale prescription medications. Our fundraising goal is $1500 per person.

I know it's not really directly related to paganism per se, but this trip is a small part of the greater path that I feel I was set on by Minerva several years ago. I know that sharing my gift is doing Her work, so even just a few dollars to get me closer to my goal is a blessing.

Well, I don't have money right now to donate as I just got fired from my job a couple weeks ago in retaliation for successfully challenging a write-up from my supervisor (long story that's not germane here); said job was as a troubleshooter for a Med D pharmacy benefits management company. As such, I do have a bit of information that may be helpful.

Off the top of my head I can tell you that occasionally, in the USA that is, local law enforcement and/or paramedics will accept unused medications from the community for disposal. There's also a website for folks to donate unused drugs to that I'll see about getting for you if you're interested.

Further, mail order medication programs can't re-issue medications that have been returned even though they're unopened. They're destroyed as part of the process of taking them back and refunding the member's money. It may be possible to contact one or more of those plans to inquire about donating those returned medications instead of destroying them.

You can also contact manufacturers of medications to see if they're willing to donate medications for the trip. Any local pharmacy should be able to provide you with initial contact information for drug manufacturers if you can give them the names of the drugs needed.

Lastly, at least for now, if you're going to buy those medications consider using GoodRx.com. It's a discount site that provides up to an 80% discount on drugs and lists the price at local pharmacies.

Good luck, Noctua, and be safe!

I always appreciate the moral support. :)

Our team has an arrangement with the hospital system that our school is affiliated with, we're buying the medications from the hospital pharmacy system at their cost. I'd imagine that's about as cheap as they can get, since the health system we're working with has 19 hospitals here on the eastern seaboard so they definitely have bulk buying power on their side. They're also covering the cost of our personal medications, since I'm going to have to take prophylactic meds against malaria while I'm there, as well as being vaccinated for typhoid and hepatitis A.

Unfortunately the system that the Haitian government has in place for importing medications is surprisingly strict. Even if we could get our hands on returned and donated medications (which would be amazing) there's no guarantee that the Haitian government would allow us to bring them in the country. As it is with our OTC meds we're having to collect them in October even though we're not traveling until March, just so we have time to compile all the information the government wants to allow us to bring them in (we have to give them the manufacturer, lot#, and expiration date on every single med we bring in 3 months in advance for them to be allowed through customs).

I did discover recently another way that people can help, however. My husband (who also works in the medical field) told me that one of the biomedical manufacturers that he buys products from has a charity fund that will give donations to medical non-profits (as a tax writeoff for themselves I'm sure, but I'm not going to complain about that). He's currently getting in touch with them through the company's rep he works with to see about how to submit a grant proposal to them. If anyone else has similar leads on free corporate monies I'd love to pursue them. :)

You're welcome!

And yeah, that sounds about like what I was hoping you could find with that charity.
