Your favorite Gemstone/crystals?
« on: June 10, 2012, 07:59:07 pm »
Hello Hello!
I hope this is in the right spot, I wasn't sure where it fit in.

So I was surprised yesterday to receive a late(and by late I mean over two years) graduation card, with a tidy sum of cash in it. My brother graduated and some family friends who hadn't made it to mine surprised me with the card.

With that being said, I decided it was time for me to do something for me! And what better than beefing up my crystal collection!

To be honest, I only have one to, and I'm not positive what it is. I was drawn to it in a store about a year ago. Currently though, I use it whenever I need to draw out some negative energy and replenish myself with positive.

Which are your favorites and why? I'm going to buy several. haha.

I adore gemstones, crystals, and rocks. I don't know a whole lot about properties and such off the top of my head, but here are the ones that I've always liked best:

Amethyst is my absolute favorite. It's my birthstone, but I read YEARS ago that it has calming energies and can help reduce nightmares. As I get stressed out and often have nightmares, I have a few amethyst pieces that I hold and keep under my pillow.

Obsidian is another favorite. I find the black color very calming, and I used to imagine all of my negative/stressed emotions into it, then leave it outside overnight. I haven't done that recently, but it made me feel better the times I did!

I'm going to put rose quartz as my third. I've always felt it to be a very warm, very happy gemstone.

And I have a particular liking for Fool's Gold (pyrite) for absolutely no reason at all xD

I hope that helps and I'm sorry I don't know more about their properties!

Amethyst is my birthstone as well, so of course, I have a love for it!

I've kept notes and tested how I've reacted to different stones for sometime now. So I cannot say that anything I experience with them is par for the course for anyone else.

Under pillow: Amethyst - It decreases headaches when applied to third eye and also seems to help me see things that way. However, I must make sure to put it back under pillow if I want easy sleep, otherwise it feels like I move from waking figuring to dream state figuring. Not restful. Rose Quartz - When overly stressed or ill or muscles aching - I place it at solar plexus and let the feeling spread. It is as if it appeases my nerves both figurative and literal. There are two others, but I am testing them still.

I've made daily jewelry from other stones. Earrings and necklaces. Howlite is a favorite for my ears at work. I mix chips of rose quartz with them. I am not sure if they make me respond with less anger or if I am reminded by them to do so. Either way, it's been a win. People seem to be less snappy at me as well when I wear them. I have them hung on white copper wire.

I use expandable cages for stones as necklaces so they hang at either the solar plexus or the heart levels. I've experimented with several combinations. I have five cages, so I plan the combos for each one so that they might aide me in any given day. The gemstones for each are too much to list. A typical week will have a set designed for love/healing; protection/negative energy bust/conversion; chill the bleep out; eloquence/contemplation; energy/luck.

The cool thing with the cages and earrings is that you need small gemstones to fit them and that is a nice break for the money! ;)

I'll admit that when I gridded my work room, I did look into the general associations of the stones because I figured with the various crews that would be in the space, something general might be the best fit. It seems to have worked well in comparison to having nothing the previous year.

Which are your favorites and why?

Like most rock people, I have many favorites.  ;)  But one of the most important things I've learned is that generalizations are difficult.  Different people respond differently to the same rocks.  And different specimens of the same kind of rock can be very different.  Also, I find that how the stone is cut (if it's cut) and *where* I wear them both can make a big difference.

So what works for me might not work for you.  You just have to learn through trial and error.

For calming, soothing, and that sort of thing, my current faves are blue moonstone and opal. I wear 2 opal rings, a blue moonstone pendant over my heart, and blue moonstone bracelets on each wrist.

The stone that currently works the best for me for grounding is smokey quartz.  I wear a small -- but very beautiful and potent -- smokey quartz crystal set in a pendant that falls over my solar plexus.

Obsidian is my shield of choice.  I have a fire obsidian pendant I wear when I know I'm going to need extra help with shielding (like during certain meetings), as well as a mahogany obsidian pocket stone.

I also usually carry a citrine point that my husband brought me from Uruguay.  It's beautiful, and it has a special kind of energy.

Like others, I have a soft spot for amethyst, although I don't do as well with rough amethyst points or with faceted amethyst.  I have a lovely amethyst cabochon ring that I find very soothing.

I'm also excited about a new piece I'll be trying soon.  A friend recently gave me a beautiful faceted Oregon sunstone as a thank-you gift for a favor I did.  I'm having it set (by another friend, who is a silversmith) in a pendant.  I'm looking forward to learning about this stone and it's energy.

Finally, I love clear quartz crystals, especially those with interesting features like internal inclusions.  I'm a sucker for the sparkles and rainbows created by inclusions and internal faces in the crystals.  Every one is different and they're all beautiful.

Hello Hello!
Which are your favorites and why?

Hmm, let's see....

Bloodstone is my absolute, complete and utter all time favourite. I can use it for pretty much anything!

I also love Flourite, Amethyst, Citrine, Labradorite, Garnet and Amber, plus lots of others that I use all the time.

I'm not a Haematite fan at all, but I can use it.

Chalk up another vote for amethyst here. I have still to meet someone who doesn't like it. Same for rose quartz.

Beyond that, I love carnelian for no particular reason; probably it's just the colour that makes me say 'yeah, that's it'. I like lapis lazuli and malachite, which have always felt like twins. Haematite I find takes some getting used to, but once that happens, it's a superb shield. (It's telling that it's a very popular stone for rosaries!)

I like lapis, but not malachite.  It's beautiful, but it always feels slimy to me. Don't know why.  I wish it didn't, though, because I think it's a gorgeous color.

Hematite is also beautiful, but I can't wear it.  It shatters very quickly.  Also, it's hard to find natural hematite.  Most of what's easily available is man-made -- if that makes a difference.

Carnelian is GORGEOUS. And garnets can also be an equally beautiful reddish-purple rock. I have a container of ones that I dug out of a rock when I was a kid, but they're just so SMALL.

I love lapis lazuli and malachite, but I've never had personal experience with them - just seen them in books and stores and museums. They are incredibly beautiful, and I think now I should get one or both :) As for Hematite, I love the look, but I agree that I don't much like it. I've only held it a few times and don't own a piece of my own, however.

My favourite by far is hematite. I like it firstly because of the colour, which probably sounds a bit shallow when choosing something that is a magical tool. I also like the fact that it can be made magnetic, which has some alleged health benefits (though I don't know if I believe them) as well as being a good tool to draw good to you. Additionally, many people see magical energy as being some form of electromagnetic energy, so in that view a magnetic stone should be good for manipulating it.

I had to look that one up because I've never seen on in person...those are so cool! And beautiful. Do they have any properties different from regular obsidian?

I don't use semi-precious stones in spellwork unless I find them myself (for ecological and social reasons).  Fortunately I live in an area with expansive beaches, so I regularly find pretty pieces of jadeite and agate in a variety of colors and with varying degrees of clarity.  I also like to work with natural stones that have been polished by wind and water, regardless of their composition.  I have several egg-shaped pieces of smooth, gray granite that are among my favorites.

I've had amethyst (my birthstone) and rose quartz for years but now don't seem to do much for me.  I'm thinking it's b/c I'm in one of those transition times in my life (one of many).  Now I'm getting alot from moonstone, garnet, citrine, orange calcite, obsidian and onyx.
