If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Premonition?
« on: January 27, 2013, 09:05:19 am »
Not sure if this is the right place so I am sorry.....

I think I had a premonition, but I can't be sure. I have never had a real premonition. So I will leave up to all of you who are much wiser and experienced. In actuality I hope that it wasn't. I was laying in bed. I KNOW that I was not sleeping. I had been laying there for at least 10-15 minutes. I closed my eyes and all of sudden I have a vision of a post that I had written here, but have not written yet. It read "New York City had a huge earth quake last night. It was a 7.5. There is a lot of devastation and chaos. I can't believe these poor people. Well needless to say, this go me out of bed. I have never expereinced anything like this. I have had a small one in the beginning of my journy here about a family member haveing a complete mental break down, which I am sure will happen at some point so that isn't anything special, just common knowledge. I am hoping that this vision is just that and not a real look into the future. I pray and pray and pray.

It was a strange night. Something in me was in major overdrive. There were many times I was up and laying there awake but not awake. Had a lot things that felt like dreams but weren't. Nothing major though so they are not worth really mentioning. (I know in the past I would be writing it all down) but I am beginning to learn what is important and just a bit of an experience. But needless to say, I should be exhuasted because I was up and down and very aware while I was asleep. Where usually I am just under a deep sleep and do not remember much. I would really enjoy some suggestions. Like I said, I really hope that this isn't a premonition.

Hallucinations and dream-like visions during half-awake state are really not uncommon (I don't remember the scientific term and an explanation for them, but it is also connected to the sleep paralysis phenomenon), and most often they don't mean much more than regular dreams. Dreams about catastrophic events, especially combined with anxiety and insomnia may point towards some issues in your life that need resolving (are you experiencing a lot of stress now?), but it's very unlikely that what you saw is a premonition of some real, global events.

Also, it may be worth asking. Are you on any medications right now, or experiencing some kind of health issues? In my experience, this can contribute to such unusual dreams as well.

I think I had a premonition, but I can't be sure. I have never had a real premonition.

Our minds are very strange things, and that space between being sleeping and waking is even more so.

The thing with premonitions, I think, is to look at them and say "What would I do if this were real, and I were certain it was?"

If I have a premonition, say, that something goes wrong with my car or my computer, I might go "Right, this is a good time to check that thing out, make sure I've got backups/a spare tire/whatever." Those are good things to do regularly anyway, so doing them even if I don't turn out to need them is probably not a huge problem.

(For things that involve an hour or two and not tons of unnecessary money, anyway.)

But there's other stuff where even if it's true, there's not a lot we can do. Your premonition of your family member, you might be able to do things to prepare for, but you can't control someone else's behaviour, and you can't really stop it happening if it's going to. So there's less you could do there except maybe be ready to be helpful or get out of the way (or whatever's necessary)

But a "Something bad might happen to New York City" is even more so. First, it's really non-specific (when is this thing happening?). And second, even if you had more specifics, it's not like evacuating the city/etc. is going to happen.

If you had friends in the city, you might say something like "I had the weirdest thing happen. I'm sure it's nothing, but can you reassure me you've got emergency supplies and stuff?" Because that kind of stuff is useful in other settings - a hurricane, a power outage, etc. But in general? There's not a lot you can do to either change that or fix it. That's the risk we take, living on a planet that moves around under our feet from time to time.

(My understanding is that geologically, Boston's a lot more likely to get a major quake than New York is, but it's been a while since my geology classes.)

I experience this - hypnagogic hallucinations. I was freaked out when it first happened, thinking I was hearing voices, but I'm used to it now. I do hear some fairly odd stuff, though, especially if something is keeping me from falling properly asleep (like noise). If I'm more energetic than I should be before I go to sleep, it's worse. I've learnt that grounding after a ritual is really important for avoiding that state.

I usually get them when I'm about to wake up (along with the sleep paralysis); I "hear" my name being called. The first time it happened, it was a bit frightening, but now it's just annoying when it happens. :p
