Visualization Spells?
« on: January 06, 2014, 11:22:58 pm »
Somewhere else, somebody recommended that I try visualization and meditation spells, because I can't get privacy in my home. I share a room, and my foster mom has been known to barge in on me. But, what are visualization spells, exactly? And how could I perform one?

I don't believe I know what the person is talking about. I than think of spells that might help one meditate, but they would not prevent interruption. You might be cast a spell for privacy that might help prevent your mother from barging in without warning, however.

If you mean doing spells via visualisation, they're possible - but they're going to suffer from exactly the same problems you're having with meditation. Probably the answer is to figure out how to get a bit more privacy somehow.

For example, some people practice meditation in the bathtub. (Good for some forms of it, but not all, but at least "I'm taking a bath" usually gets you some private time.) Some people pretend to go to sleep, and do it then (lying still in your bed is enough like sleeping) or wake up early (using some method that won't wake the person they share a room with.)

When it's not winter, you can go and find an outdoor spot with some quiet - a corner of a park, whatever. (And depending on what's around you, you might be able to find, say, a quiet study room in your local library that might work for meditation work.)

I have been in a similar situation (not really having private space/time to do full physical rituals), and have known others in that situation as well.  What we have done is to visualize doing the rituals/spells we wished to do.

Do what you would normally do for meditation, and then visualize the entire ritual.  I find it helpful to focus on details (what do your ritual tools look like?  if you don't have a particular tool, you can build it in your mind with visualization)  Feel yourself doing every motion, see the things around you changing (when you light the candles, everytime you think about them, they should be lit).  Say the words you want to say in your mind (if you want to/can, you may whisper them if you like).

If you can't set aside time in the day to visualize like this, you can do it at night, in bed, before going to sleep.  Or even take a moment in the bathroom with the door shut (I do this when on vacation, though the house is crowded then, so I can't spend too long in there!)  Or, you can sit with a book in your lap, or ipod in your ears (it doesn't even have to be on, though if you find music good to meditate to or want to have music that fits the theme of your ritual that can be good too) which will make people less likely to bother you.

You can do a spell in 'your mind'. But - to be honest - this needs a lot more of focus than even a normal meditation does. So if you have no privacy/peace at all, it will be really difficult.

Also to consider: you should have some experience with doing spells to construct pure mental ones.

I have a certain place "in the realms" that I work from, I do have a home setup but find that practicing "in my happy place" is just more intimate and I can do things which I cannot do anywhere else. I keep my foot there, so to speak.. I am always in two places at once. I have been doing it for years.

However, if I was doing something there which was rather intensive, people may notice here in my normal waking life that I was not paying attention to them, so far nobody has commented so far.

I suggest asking for some space, perhaps explain that you are struggling with something and need some time to be alone every now and then. If she is at all rational, she will understand.

Alternatively, if you have issues with visualisation and have a half decent computer, you might be able to do certain things online, say.. in secondlife? Perhaps you can even draw something to visualise at a later time, like before bed.

Good luck.

Hey!

Oddly enough I can concentrate better at a cafe without the fear of interruption.  If you can drown out the noise (I know it's tough) you can get privacy in a crowd. I've done this on occasion and if its not too busy it works.
