If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Scrying?
« on: February 07, 2018, 02:18:07 pm »
I'm beginning to dip my toes into scrying... I've been very interested in exploring new types of divination lately; feeling the call of the High Priestess in my soul!!  :o

Does anyone have any experience in scrying? Any tips, advice? Any helpful incense combos to put you in the right mood? I'm very interested in trying it out with a black bowl of water... I would love to hear other peoples' experiences with this!

Many Blessings,
Madison

Hi, Madison,

Just to let you know, I've moved this from 'Paganism for Beginners' to 'Magic and the Occult for Beginners', because the Magic and the Occult forums are where the Divinatory Arts forum is.

You're not in any sort of trouble; staff are happy to move threads to more suitable forums for people (we only get annoyed about it when someone clearly hasn't bothered to put any thought at all into where the thread should go - and that usually isn't obvious unless someone has an ongoing habit of not bothering to think about it) - I'm just adding this note for your information, in case you wonder why your thread isn't where you put it.

Hello Madison,

I'm afraid I'm not in a position to give you any advice, but thought I'd post in your thread because I'm interested to see what advice you get - scrying's something I've been thinking about trying too.

The closest I've come is meditation whilst staring into a candle flame, but no great revelations.  Then again I didn't have any very focused subject matter in mind so maybe a lack of revelations is to be expected.  I don't actually think I'm very sensitive to such things so I think I'd be starting at a disadvantage, too.

Anyway I hope you get some useful info and good luck with your first ventures in scrying.

I use a black mirror - very similar to the black bowl of water. The black screen of a modern TV also works surprisingly well!

I find getting the lighting right is key, you want a little light but you also don't want it to fall directly on your reflective surface. You may need to play around with the positioning of your candle ( if that's what you are using).

If you are using a bowl of water  you could try infusing the herb eyebright into the water ( I wash my mirror in it). It is said to enhance the vision.

Otherwise I make sure it's quiet and I won't be disturbed and focus my eyes behind the surface - effectively looking at a point beyond the reflective surface and let the patterns form as they will.

The closest I've come is meditation whilst staring into a candle flame, but no great revelations.

I've used an open (wood - not coal) fire (my parents stay in the country and have a fireplace).  Haven't had any specific answers (but then I've not asked any specific questions  ;)  ), but it definitely seems to put you 'in touch' with... whatever.

I find it works so much better when I build the fire myself, so I'd encourage you to do that if you're physically able.  (Of course that may all be moot.  :()
