Natural healing?
« on: December 29, 2011, 09:18:28 pm »
I am not entirely sure if this is the proper section for this, but it doesn't seem to fit in any of the others.

I was wondering if anyone might have good recipes/ideas on how to help with kidney stones and back pain? I'm trying to help some friends of mine that have already been down more modern roads without much help. I know that dandelion greens are supposed to be good for the kidneys, but you try finding them in the midst of a WI winter. :p

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you happen to have recipes (please, not too complicated), that would be totally awesome. :)

Thanks a ton!

My husband just had, and passed, his first kidney stone.  There are more in his kidney but they don't seem to be going anywhere...for now.

The one recommendation that seems to be universal is to drink enough water each day to ensure that one's urine is nearly colorless, and to take medication for the pain when needed.  Since vomiting can be common with stones, it is also recommended to drink something to replace electrolytes - we used Gatorade with good results.

Supposedly, there's a water from Italy that dissolves/prevents stones called Fiuggi.  I have no idea whether it works or not (one of our friends swears by it) but at $23/case it isn't a cheap option.

I'm calling bogus on this without even knowing for certain I'm right.  Sounds like a load of bullocks to me.

ETA:  Sounds like excellent marketing, though.  I'd add other curative properties, were I their PR firm.  "It cured my marital infidelity!"
