how do YOU use your energy during a spell?

the main thing that always wonks me up when im doin magic is the whole energy gathering part. it can be so touchy. if i get distracted while im gathering it then it all just poofs away and i gotta start again
MAINLY the way i use energy durin a spell is i think of what i want and then aim energy into that until it feels full and then i release it. but lately i been trying somethin different where i think of somethin and just release energy during the whole spell like a leaky faucet. and then at the end theres kinda automatically a big boom of energy. and thats been workin pretty alright

so how do you guys do it? story time! go!

I don't do much energywork anymore either. What I understand of physical energy has become a sort of experiential symbol for something subtle. What I work with is abstract concepts, and from what I've gathered it's not so much "force" as effectiveness upon a complex where each concept is equally real except for the ones I can't grok (yet); and if the complex collects too much of this, that, or the other quality. It's difficult to word.

What I have been thinking about is the translation of physical and subtle abilities in video games and tabletop roleplays to numbers. Most systems would have a gauge of sorts that put a quantity to how many hits a character can take before passing out (hit points or health points) and the same for spellcasting (magic points.) I've come to think of them respectively as gauges for stamina and clarity, and realize that in real life I sort of cast from HP and push my physical limits off from the MP gauge so they might be one thing in my wiring.

 I'm the same way. I mainly stick to folk and "low" magic practice though, so I never feel much of a need to gather energy, I just do the spell. When I need to gather energy, I usually do this through repetitive chanting combined with visualization of what I want to happen. I may change up how I do things, I've really been thinking over which methods seem to bring me the best results.

iiii dont actually know a whole lot about folk magic. hows it work? i heard of it a ton of times but never thought of lookin in to it til just now. but theres a lot of info out there. is there like a cliffnotes version of what it is?

sometimes i do low magic tho! i really like that. its fun and gets the magic vibe a-brewin'. but i always end up goin back to good ol ritual magic since i usually dont feel like bein patient and low magic takes too long to work for me

I don't really gather energy; I just use my own towards my intention and maintaining my connection with whatever entities are helping me with it.

Folk magic is a form of low magic, its very simple magic used for practical things. Folk magic is like adding thyme to a meal for more courage and taking a few seconds too close your eyes and do a quick visualization and chant, then going on with whatever you were doing before. Its used for things like making a meal appear better, getting a job, being able to find something lost, etc. just other practical things. There's not much prep work for spells, you just kinda do it when you feel it.

As for some good sources to read more about it, there's a ton of good books out there. They may even be in your local library but if your pressed for money or gas, there are a lot of really good websites to read more about it, it may take some extra searching but you can find some gems out there.

 hah woops i thought i answered back to this a while ago. but thats pretty cool. it sounds a lot like what i figured most low magic was like. im usually pretty ritualy but i do stuff like that a lot when i dont have time to pull out the circles and candles. thanks for the info!
