Have you ever enchanted a pumpkin?
« on: October 28, 2020, 06:59:20 pm »
In the spirit of the season  ;D I've been thinking about pumpkins, and the magical uses thereof.

I can see some potential here. Since pumpkins are hollow, they could stand in for a cauldron or other vessel. Or as a jack-o-lantern, they could have runes or other symbols carved into them.

Has anyone ever tried this? What kind of magic would you do with a pumpkin?

I tend to stick with jack o'lanterns to ward off the uninvited visitors that crop up this time of year.

My usual method is to place them around the main entrances and connect them energetically to my household wards.  The candles that go inside get dressed in oils and herbs that deflect 'out of town' visitors. The outsides get carved according to whatever mood I'm in, but always include symbols of protection (often just drawn on the bottom).

For the annual dumb supper, I usually include a baked pumpkin stuffed with grains, herbs, fruit and nuts.  It's a subtle bit of kitchen witchery to give the overall atmosphere a nudge in whatever direction it needs to go - just vary the ingredients to suit the desired effect.

I missed my chance this year but I'll have to try this sometime.  :)

I've never tried a (deliberate) dumb supper, but since I live alone, a lot of my meals are silent anyway. I wonder how/if that would affect the result ...
