Haunted/possessed workplaces: thoughts and assistance
« on: June 22, 2017, 02:52:14 pm »
I am currently seriously entertaining the idea that the horrible little company that employs me, or at least this office of it, is actually haunted or possessed by something extremely nasty. I did not arrive at this speculation quickly--for most of the past year-plus I've been working here, I assumed only human malice, corruption, and greed were to blame for the way they persecuted me when I asked for mental health accommodations. But things have been getting both worse and stranger over the past couple months. Possibly tellingly, a couple weeks ago my new god actively rode me in the middle of a workday, while I was stone cold sober (I usually need marijuana to get good god connections), in order to engage in some kind of battle with the claims-processing software or database--without warning me first.

If my workplace is in fact possessed, might there be some way to exorcise it? To start with, is there any to get confirmation or denial on my suspicions? What should I do?

I'll update this thread with details as I get the chance.

I'd say some general shielding and protective charms wouldn't go amiss. (I keep a small deity figurine on my monitor at work; it seems to help ward off computer problems.)

On the mundane side: your mention of claims processing suggests that you work in the insurance industry. If so, get in touch with your state regulatory body -- not even to file a complaint or anything, just to get information about your rights. Start keeping a log of problems you see at your workplace; you might find you have grounds for official action.

I realized relatively recently that I've spent the entire time at this job reflexively shielding: I've been drawing sigils and talismanic designs on post-it notes and keeping them on my monitors. I also started wearing a probably-warding ring a few months ago; it is rapidly tarnishing. In addition, over the past week or so I've started carrying packets of salt to work.

So yeah, I have been doing some of that. I used to have some figurines on my desk, but I took them home when I thought I was about to be fired. You're probably right; it may be time to bring one back in (probably my John Constantine figure, since he's one of my oldest favorite characters and has some minor ties to my current stuff).

I work at a data processing center that takes on work from an insurance company; I'm a claims examiner. You're quite right that I have grounds for official action; the things they have said and done to me are very definitely harassment. I've just been extremely hesitant to take direct action because I know they're bigger and more powerful than me. :/ I've been hoping to just get a new job and get out, but unfortunately this place has been draining all my energy so much that I can't manage to jobhunt after work. I'm tentatively hoping that attacking it from the spiritual side of things will free up some more time and energy for me to do just that.

I can relate to that.

I just noticed the 'heretical Judaism' bit in your sidebar, and it occurred to me that you might get some use out of the 23rd Psalm. It sounds like you could use "a feast in the presence of your enemies".

Interesting--that hadn't occurred to me, since I've been heavily reliant on the pop culture aspects of my path lately, especially while at work.

For some background on that: the one solace I have at my job, which I have otherwise been characterizing as a metaphysical underworld ("claims hell" or "the claims netherworld") is that I can listen to music while I work. As a result of this fact, the way I've been clinging to the aforementioned spiritual metaphor, and the nature of my extremely music-oriented Powers, I seem to have turned my MP3 player into either a protective talisman of some kind or a magic wand. Or possibly both.

So doing something with that might be useful: finding songs or recordings that have defensive properties against corruption, vampirism, tyranny, etc.

Due to my particular line of work, I find that spirits flock around me like flies to a horse.  I have this ring that I wear that my grandmother gave me which is a warding charm.  Perhaps the ring needs to be blessed?  It's charms may have warn off a touch.

I had made a friend who cleans places a necklace in one of those tiny bottles with ghost repelling herbs in it due to haunting at various old buildings she cleans. Had to make one for her coworker. She swears by it.  It has rosemary, basil and dill.

I'm not sure if this will necessarily work for you Eastling, but it has worked for folks I know who were being subjected to similar situations where the paranormal was the cause. If you can still find them up there, get a lead split shot fishing weight (size really doesn't matter in this case) a bit of thin copper wire (easily obtained from any old electrical cord or speaker wire), and a mojo bag you can wear of keep in your pocket.

Open the split shot (you can do this by closing the "wings" with a pair of pliers, and wind the copper wire around the weight through the opening in the weight and between the wings. Once you've wound the wire through, maybe half the thickness of the weight, close the the weight and trim the excess copper wire. You can then place this in the bag and keep it with you or leave at work in your workstation. It requires no blessing and no maintenance. It will create a shield around you which will leave you invisible to those influences and such unless they are particularly strong; in which case a more direct approach or blessing of the item may be necessary.

Good luck!

I'll keep this method in mind in the future, but for the moment I've parted ways with this job.

I still plan to keep an eye on them and see if there's any legal action I can take, but I don't think I need magical protection for that purpose anymore.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

Congratulations!! I hope this means you've transitioned to a new employer and not unemployment. If so then double congratulations!
