Oh, I like that idea - simple and impactful.

Thanks. :)

Someday I plan on doing a more permanent version with a mirror that belongs to me and won't remain in a rental house and using something better than nail polish. I'll also probably back it up with enchantment. Stuff for the future, though.

If I'm envisioning what you're talking about correctly, I believe you may be referring to Witch's Ladders? A long piece of string with objects tied into it and (generally) hung up near doorways?

*digs up a picture* Here's an example using driftwood.

They're an old thing, but I think they're getting more popular now. I first read about them in Mrs. B's book, I think. (Or if I heard about them before that the info didn't stick in my brain.)

If I'm wrong, please let me know.

No witch's ladders could be done but this would be. https://www.google.com/search?q=string+art&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwju0eqgy7jJAhVLOj4KHU6-B3AQsAQIHA&biw=1600&bih=755

Ohhhhh. That makes much more sense. My brain is in such a state I could only envision one possible thing...which is silly, because I've seen that string art before and should have thought of it first. Renovation stress is taking its toll.

That's a really cool idea, creating some with magical intent. You'll have to let us know how it goes!

I came across this information on Tumblr and it helped me continue my practice during a time that I was feeling particularly low energy and unmotivated, so I want to share it here.

A Few Magical Home Ideas

  • Enchant the mirrors in your house to give everyone who looks into them a boost in their self-esteem/body image (I LOVE this one)
  • Place a candle on the stove to symbolize the hearth fire tradition
  • Make a magic welcome mat that draws in good company and keeps away the bad
  • Pay close attention to the sort of energy your decor creates and adjust it to help create the energy you want in your home
  • Playing music and changing the scent in a room can suffice for a quick energetic shift
  • Put bells on your doors.  Bells help clear energy, every time you open a door that room gets a little cleansing boost
  • Cleaning your home can be turned into more than just house magic.  You can visualize yourself sweeping away worries or scrubbing away old habits
  • Bake bread.  The smell of baking wafting through your home can alter the energy in lovely ways and it's also great for bringing prosperity to the house

I hope you are all having a lovely day!

I thought this little post on some basic Folk Magick for the home was good, so I bumped it. I have been building up a magickal practice at home lately, mostly candle work, but I like this list. I am especially going to try the mirror idea.

For me, I realized that having mini altars around the home helps me keep a better sense of mind - I have one in the living room window, the bathroom window, my altar in my bedroom, and the one in the kitchen. The guest bedroom is in and of itself magically inclined to be relaxing because of the color palette, and what I've used in there - many earth tones, and natural materials - to mimic nature. Definitely helps to keep the place sound.

As for other things - definitely agree about baking bread! I do it every weekend and my day gets so much better.

I've discovered that the top of a door's trim is a great place to put sigils and other small charms (I also have one hanging from the door handle). Plus I live in a studio, so magical stuff gets tucked in wherever it fits.

Yes!  I have some dragon wood cuts on top of our bathroom door, and tiny skeleton keys (double purpose:  they help keep metaphorical doors open, and if a door gets accidentally locked, they can open the physical door too).

We have a laundry closet in the kitchen, and I have tacked small nails at the top of the door trim, so I can hang things around the doorway (since it is the heart of our house), I have a little charm with stone beads hanging from one, and an herbal bundle on another.

I have inscribed symbols on the tops of doors too...

I absolutely love this idea! I used to think magic had to be such a huge production for some reason (thanks to the media I guess), which made it hard to feel like I could find the time to practice. Now that I'm realizing it doesn't I'm really enjoying finding ways to incorporate it into my every day life. I love the idea of using your cleaning time to practice cleansing.

I am going to have to try this!!! I've never thought of doing that before to be honest.

I like drawing sigils on the top of doors, or in the hinge area.  Also tucking them behind pictures (sometimes literally behind a photo and inside the frame)

I love stuff like this- magic that's present in your every day life. It reminds me of this cool youtube video I saw recently where an old Viking spindle was discovered with a spell written around the edge (and now pewter replicas are available for sale)- how neat to have something like that where someone spinning every day would have seen it. Something similar like engraving a wallet with a sigil for abundance would be neat.
