Easy magical ideas for your home
« on: November 20, 2015, 02:12:55 pm »
I came across this information on Tumblr and it helped me continue my practice during a time that I was feeling particularly low energy and unmotivated, so I want to share it here.

A Few Magical Home Ideas

  • Enchant the mirrors in your house to give everyone who looks into them a boost in their self-esteem/body image (I LOVE this one)
  • Place a candle on the stove to symbolize the hearth fire tradition
  • Make a magic welcome mat that draws in good company and keeps away the bad
  • Pay close attention to the sort of energy your decor creates and adjust it to help create the energy you want in your home
  • Playing music and changing the scent in a room can suffice for a quick energetic shift
  • Put bells on your doors.  Bells help clear energy, every time you open a door that room gets a little cleansing boost
  • Cleaning your home can be turned into more than just house magic.  You can visualize yourself sweeping away worries or scrubbing away old habits
  • Bake bread.  The smell of baking wafting through your home can alter the energy in lovely ways and it's also great for bringing prosperity to the house

I hope you are all having a lovely day!

Oh, I love the idea of a magic welcome mat - especially since next phase of my house remodeling is the front entrance. But anyone have any idea or suggestions for how to make your own welcome mat?

I feel like we've had a whole thread on the magic of decor on the board before, but I'm gonna say it again anyway: your space can have such a huge impact on you. I learned that from my mother. While I have not always agreed with her interior design choices (the 90s brass-and-glass phase... ugh) she has always created the energy of her home very carefully through what she brings into it.

Directly before I logged on to the forum today I was having a conversation with my sister about painting my living room. Maybe this is a sign I should do so, heh.

Mama Fortuna, I need to paint the walls of my new house (my first house!) - it's that dingy yellow and it just looks terrible, but we also have popcorn ceilings we want to redo, so when I want to paint the walls, I realize I should do the ceiling first and then just think nope.

Oh GOD the dreaded popcorn ceiling! You have my sympathies. Mine's flat, but I think I'd leave it white anyway - I just want to do an accent wall in a pale sage green.

We just put an offer on a house with the brass and glass thing going on. That will be our first home improvement project, I believe. I think a fresh coat of paint in itself can be magical. It seems to cover over what the old owners brought to the house in a way.

I love the idea of a magic welcome mat! I feel that this house needs a literal and spiritual cleansing as well, particularly one of the rooms. My husband even felt it when he walked in. :(

Absolutely!  Our homes are our sanctuaries.  I think of mine as an extension of myself, just as I do for magic and dance items and musical instruments.

Same for me when I moved into my current place.  I could feel the energies of generations of tenants before me, which inspired me to deep clean every inch of the place both literally and spiritually.  Cleansing a new home is essential.

Great thread. One easy way to make your own welcome mat would be to make a braided rug. Take trips of material (Cotton seems preferable as it's inexpensive and sturdy. You could cut up some old jeans if you want, but in that case, cleanse the material magickally extra well and preferably don't use clothes that you were unhappy in. Cloth retains emotional energy very strongly.) Braid the strips together, then sew them into a spiral with strong thread.
When given a choice between black and white, choose purple.

I actually did this but in a really mundane, obvious way (ie, involving no actual spellwork, but serving the same purpose). I painted the words "You are beautiful;  you are loved" in nail polish on my mirror that I looked into every day. It was a definite self-esteem boost.

I'd do it in this house but rental, not my mirror. (It comes off easy but I don't want to answer awkward questions if seen by landlords.)

Have you seen some of the new string art pieces. I would love to do for positive energy. It's wood, knots and nails.

I have seen those. I always thought they were pretty interesting, but never thought of using them magically.

I grew up with string art pieces, since my grandmother collected them.  They always fascinated me.  In fact, I was just thinking about creating one with magickal intent a few days ago!

Oh, I like that idea - simple and impactful.

Lionrhod, any ideas on how to get those kinds of mats to stay in place? I like the braided mats, but they always seem to be all over the place.

If I'm envisioning what you're talking about correctly, I believe you may be referring to Witch's Ladders? A long piece of string with objects tied into it and (generally) hung up near doorways?

*digs up a picture* Here's an example using driftwood.

They're an old thing, but I think they're getting more popular now. I first read about them in Mrs. B's book, I think. (Or if I heard about them before that the info didn't stick in my brain.)

If I'm wrong, please let me know.
