Black magic for a good purpose?
« on: December 06, 2011, 06:32:15 pm »
With all the bills coming out now, like the 1867 bill and the internet censorship bill, do you think it is right to do some form of black magic on the tyrants proposing and trying to pass these bills and what would be the consequence to the person who casts these spells?

That would depend on your personal school of thought. If you were a BTW, you would be told that there are no good purposes for the use of "black " magic, and that malicious or baneful magic will rebound on the caster three fold. (or some such)

From a strictly ceremonial point of view, your magic is as effective as your belief, and if you believe there would be consequences, there might be.......

Personally, unless I was in a personal relationship with said tyrants, I would assume that I do not have the knowledge to make that kind of judgment call. One man's tyrant is another man's law maker......

I don't exactly subscribe to the whole black vs white magic philosophy, but if it's something that you believe to be wrong, I see no problem with doing a ritual to counter some of the crap bills coming worth.  In fact, I've been tempted to do exactly what you're thinking here.  I would say, just see both sides of the argument before doing any magick action.  I think it's important to see as many different sides to an issue and then make up my mind.  Although, some of the stuff I've seen lately makes it hard for me to do even that.

The argument could be made that it one's duty to oppose something they see as wrong.  I'm no longer of the opinion of letting karma sort things out, not when it could be within our abilities to stand up to something we disagree with.

Right. Unfortunately for me I am very inexperienced with magic. As far as it having to do with my perspective of it being just or not, I believe it to be more just to try and do something, then me not doing anything at all. I do not wish to harm any innocents, not even the people with in these tyrants families. I do hope you follow through. We need all the help we can get.

IMHO, there is no real black magic or white magic, just magic. The purpose that this magic is put to can be good or bad, but the magic itself is "neutral". It's like atomic reactions, I can use them to kill cancer cells, power cities or make bombs able to level large cites in a single blast.

In such cases, why not simply find a framing that does what you want without being unduly manipulative? For example, magic to illuminate the issues in a badly designed bill is not manipulative.

Of course, writing to/calling one's elected representatives is also pretty important. Or encouraging other people to do likewise, with clear specific info about what the problematic bits that concern  you are.
