Before considering the regular steps for candle spells, I used to deeply visualize what I wanted, then I'd light the candle and visualize the light from it shining on my intent and giving it power. I'd take a minute or two to concentrate on the flame of the candle, while visualizing what I want to happen. And once I felt it was right, I'd put out the candle and let it stay in place until I want to light it again to shine more power or use it for another spell. I clear the candle of my past intent if I decide to use it for another. Is this formula fine?

I no longer reuse candles either, as I believe my spells work much better when I dedicate a specific candle to each one. But like others have mentioned, sometimes I reuse a candle for the same candle. Usually this would be with my most elaborate/beautiful/expensive candles, or candles that have been gifted to me. I use these for protection or blessing spells and I light them every day for a while until they are done.

I love the birthday candle idea for quick spells. And of course, jar candles in the bathroom is the way to go if you must leave it lit for days.

I've been wanting to try a spell where I would focus my intent into the candle, maybe put some runes on it, light the candle, focus my intent again, and then put the flame out and let the smoke from the flame (if there's any) to spread the energy of the spell out, could this work?

I'd say go for it! For me, it's a lot of trial and error.
