Should I be this nervous?
« on: February 13, 2013, 10:56:10 pm »
I probably shouldn't be as nervous posting this as I am.  Anyway.  My name is Kira, and I am glad to have found you all.  I was raised in a large, close-knit Mennonite family, and although I loved seeing everyone on Sunday mornings and hearing the music, I hated sitting in those benches while other people told me what to think.  I have always felt more of a connection with nature, and lately - particularly since I have two daughters - it has become increasingly important to me to live and demonstrate a spirituality that includes and celebrates the feminine.  I looked into this path several years ago, but at that time, was not in the right head space to start the journey.  However, since the start of the this year, I have felt increasingly called by the Goddess, and have decided to take the plunge - and do you know what?  I haven't felt this excited or at home about things in a long time.

That is not to say that I know what I am doing, because I sure don't - and I don't really have anyone I can bounce things off of or share with, either.  I am very much fumbling around in the dark, but yesterday came to the conclusion - for a number of reasons -that Cailleach has been calling to me for quite some time now.  I wish I could find out more about her - are there any others who feel the same way about her?

Anyway, that's me done rambling on for now.  I'm going to go and poke around and see what I can learn!

Em hotep! Welcome! Hope you enjoy your stay at the Cauldron.

You don't have to be nervous. We generally don't bite here, although we might nibble a bit. ;)
Leave your darkness with me, and I will make you shine.

Although I joined after you Kira, I welcome you as well. I think the nervousness comes from publically stating to "strangers" that you have left your old Path and started on a new one.

You don't need to be nervous, very few people I have known started out down these Paths, so we all know where you are coming from in making the decision for change. Like you, since I started, I realized I never felt as happy or fulfilled as I am now in my original faith, or I should say my parents faith.

So welcome again thrice over and may you find more friends than you can count.
I\'m living in the Shadows and the Night, wrapped in warm darkness, safe and sure.
My Path shines by the Moon\'s fragile light, it frees my Mind and keeps my Heart pure.

Cailleach has been calling to me for quite some time now.  I wish I could find out more about her - are there any others who feel the same way about her?

There are several good books available on the Cailleach.  It's very late and I need to sleep, so I can't post titles right now.  But try searching the forum for "Cailleach" -- you should find posts that mention books.

You could also look through the Celtic polytheism SIG and the TC Cill SIG.  The cill is dedicated to Brighid, but some lore connects Her with the Cailleach.  I think we've discussed this fairly recently (within the last year), so it's worth the search.

If you strike out, though, I'd suggest starting a thread in either the Celtic SIG or the Gods/Goddesses folder to specifically ask for info on Her.  Sometimes people don't read introductions, so they miss the question.  If you start a thread with a subject line that includes Her name, you might get a better response.

If you still don't have responses by Monday, I should have a chance then to dig up titles and authors for you.  I know I have a list somewhere.  ;)

Good luck.  And welcome!

No need for nerves! Welcome :) I honour one of the aspects of the Cailleach. She can be quite hard to find reliable information about. I recommend 'The Book of the Cailleach' as a good collection of her tales and analysis of what they might represent culturally.

Thank you for the welcome and the suggestion!  I will have to try and track down that book.
