salutations new and old friends.
« on: June 25, 2013, 07:47:13 pm »
my name is irrelevent, you can call me starbaby.

i am 22 years old in the flesh, although i believe i am an old soul.
i grew up in a strict Christian Pentecostal family, i was also born in Europe(romania) as well as my parents and 2 of my siblings.

growing up in the church did NOTHING for me except show me what I don't want to be: a  person blinded and possessed by a religion as such...a religion where hypocrisy is valued, atleast in my church and sect of Romanian Pentecostal Christians. I do not mean to bash christianity, but sometimes its hard not to, based on my negative experiences. although i do believe the Bible is as precious as any other religious or spiritual text. it holds some truths that will forever resonate with me.
anyways,

as a young girl i was always attracted to "the dark side" meaning witches, witchcraft, sorcery, magic, and spells. I always secretly loved Halloween, but was never allowed to celebrate it. in fact my mother would yell at the trick-or-treaters who would come up to our door ha. i never dared touch witchcraft or anything, although in past years it has become more present in my mind--meaning i have been thinking about it more often.

when i was 18, due to  magic mushrooms, my whole world flipped around. the box of christianity disintegrated before my eyes, i knew there had to be more....there IS more!

i recently stumbled upon the Emerald Tablets of Thoth and i feel drawn to it. i am trying to read and understand.
I am just a beginner at this, i have no clue of how to even talk or "say hi" to a god or goddess of particular interest, i've never done or said any spells, except for the prayer in one of the Tablets of Thoth i am reading.

ideally i would hope to find all the answers if not most, in this community. i hope to make friends with some of you and become close and explore this together.

so, where do i start :ange: ?

Hi, starbaby, and welcome.

Ouch. I try not to be antagonistic to other religions. That being said, one of my partners was raised in the Foursquare church, so I'm aware of some of the problems it can cause. Of course, there are pagans who cause problems too -- there just seem to be less complaints about them.

I know next to nothing about the Emerald Tablet. A translation of it was in a book by a neo-pagan author I like, and a fiction book I love referenced it heavily. But that's all of  my knowledge on the subject. Since the "author" is listed as Hermes Trismegistus, perhaps look into Hellenic (Greek) or Kemetic (Egyptian) paths.

This section of the site is really good for getting your bearings: http://www.ecauldron.net/newpagan.php

So is this one: http://www.ecauldron.net/articles/index.php

One of our members, Jenett, has a website that I think is better than every "Pagan 101" book I've ever read...combined: http://gleewood.org/seeking/

And this is good for giving you an idea of some of the different paths out there:

"Modesty is an illusion" -- de Sade
"The call of death is a call of love. Death can be sweet if we answer it in the affirmative, if we accept it as one of the great eternal forms of life and transformation." -- Herman Hesse
