Greetings from Northern Michigan
« on: December 15, 2016, 10:03:01 pm »
Hello everybody!  I have been interested in Germanic Paganism and the the related culture and traditions of Northern Europe.  And this forum seems to be a great place to learn more and hopefully I will be able to contribute in the future.

I am from North Holland and moved to the US more than 20 years ago.  Pretty much still Netherlandic but also half American by now.

The first thing I have to figure out is if you there is such a thing as a non-religious pagan.  I enjoy the history and traditions of the pagan gods  but don't believe in any supernatural deities.  So that's my challenge to start with.

But anyways...   happy to be here!

Hello!
Wonderful to find another dutch person on this forums. I's love to hear more about how you came to the states and your experiences. I am considering moving there sometime in the (hopefully) near future.

Goeiedag!

I went to college in Michigan in 1990, met someone there, got married, lived in the Netherlands for about 4 years after and moved back to Michigan.  And 20+ years later, here I still am in the north.  Still want to move somewhere warmer some day.

I am originally from Heerhugowaard just north of Alkmaar.

Awesome! Leuk je te leren kennen :D:
I'm from the province Limburg, near Roermond.

I've met a man from Indiana online. We still have a ways to go but its looking promising.
Maybe one day we can meet up ;)

That's an interesting position to be in--maybe best described as "culturally pagan" (in that you feel deeply connected to what the pagan gods and traditions tell you about the culture).

My position to my gods is similar, but slightly different: I believe in the gods not as supernatural entities, but as metaphors for the forces around us and in us that we can't get a good grasp on in any other way. The gods and their myths are a profound (and profoundly human), poetic expression of the most important aspects of the universe and how we fit into it.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs
