If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Your Most Hated Christmas Song -- 2013 Edition
« on: November 01, 2013, 12:38:08 pm »
As pointed out in another thread, the holiday season starts earlier every year to the point where (US) Thanksgiving is now "Christmas, Part One."  So like it or not, it's that time of year again where you can't walk into even a convenience store without being assaulted by numerous versions of "Jingle Bells." Some of us enjoy these songs, even the kitschy ones. Some just smile and try to ignore them. Others just want to take a chainsaw to the store's music system.

There are certain songs that cause reaction number three in even the most mild mannered people. Throughout the years, it has become traditional here on TC to list our most hated Christmas songs and make fun of them.

So what's the Christmas song that you just love to hate?

Santa Claus is Coming to Town!! Can't stand hearing it! I work in retail for a few years and I swear every Christmas they would play that song over and over. They even had different versions with different singers! Drove me nuts!

All of them.

I hate Christmas.

(And no, that isn't an anti-christianity or anti-commercialism thing but everything to do with my childhood)

While the lyrics aren't Christmasy, this was a Christmas Number One so it counts-

According to my mother, two of my local radio stations have already switched to an All Christmas, All The Time line-up.

I'm not surprised. I ran into a department store today and "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" was playing. No, no it does not look a lot like Christmas.  It looks like bloody November 2nd.  There's no snow, no mistletoe, and the only holly I'm seeing anywhere near my front door is on the tree growing next to it.

Here it feels more like Columbus Day if you want to be charitable...

I hate the depressing ones (and why are there so many depressing ones? The "holiday season" is stressful enough without a downer soundtrack.).

My Mom absolutely despises that "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" song (I'm blanking on the actual title). I once saw her almost rip the nobs off a car radio in her haste to change the station. :D:

It's called The Christmas Song. I don't mind that one, as long as Justin Bieber isn't singing it.

I actually prefer the depressing ones.  They're more realistic, imo.

Though I draw the line at "Christmas Shoes" because it's less "depressing" and more "manipulative and an underlying message that subverts the intended one."

I nearly forgot unofficial TC rule #1 and was reaching for my glass of cider while reading this. Luckily I didn't get as far as taking a drink.
