What can you do with toilet rolls?
« on: March 21, 2020, 04:09:59 am »
So I think the title says it all. I know there are many people on here who are living in isolation and worried but I feel we musn't forget those poor people who now have to find uses for several hundred rolls of bulk brought toilet rolls which now clutter and barricade their homes.

Has anyone got any parctical ideas for using said items?
I have already discounted using them to escape the hordes of pitchfork wielding, toilet roll eating mobs, from upper floor windows. Also I doubt they would take writing.

Cat toys
Seed starter.
Store cords neatly

Those three off the top of my head, other people might have more uses.

In my house they end up shredded by kitten paws. :)

Well there's the obvious use, of course...!

And I don't see why they couldn't be used to escape the hordes from the upper storey window?  I mean apart from the fact that as you start piling them up to cushion your fall you're probably going to be seen and then the horde are just going to steal your crash mat & run off with it...

I doubt they would take writing.

And you can actually write on toilet tissue if you're careful and use the correct type of ballpoint pen (a Bic or a Staedler - don't know if those brands will mean anything to anyone outside the UK).

I actually now really like the idea of a Covid-19 diary written on a roll of crap wrap!!

You could use them to make out-of-season paper chains, like the ones you hang up around Yule? Or ball them up and pretend they're Easter eggs for an indoor Easter egg hunt (though they'd only be a mouthful of papery disappointment).

A Polish dressmaker on YouTube made a vintage costume (18th century?) out of toilet paper... In fairness, this wasn't a recent project. It's something she did a couple of years ago. :)

I did think, when I saw this thread, of the 'tradition'(?) of making TP wedding dresses at bridal showers.

Got a fireplace or firepit?

You could stuff the rolls with dryer lint. Poof. Easy firestarter.

Granted, that could be seen as something only a complete fuckshovel would do.

Buuuuut. Approached from a different angle...I could kinda see making offering of an item currently assigned such a high (perceived) value. Further, tree-hanging of biodegradable garland is, given the current state of affairs, arguably very much adjacent to the old tradition of tying clooties onto a sacred tree in the hopes of being healed from one's infirmities.

As the interbuttz would say: modern problems require modern solutions.

Anywho....

You could tape the empty rolls together and use them to cast concrete pylons for a tiny sundeck. Bonus: you can build said sundeck out of all those popsicle sticks you have leftover from hoarding frozen treats.

I'm not familiar with that custom - I'll have to go look that up! :)

Thats a new one on me. I've heard how money was pinned to the wedding couple in some groups but TP dresses is certainly different

Maybe, but I'd hate to be the one trying to clear them off after...

Now, that is an idea I can work with.. Blast, am I meant to be hoarding frozen treats too?
