Let's make a (fictional) religion, take 2
« on: January 25, 2018, 06:48:33 pm »
It's world-building time! In this game, each poster takes a turn adding new information about this made-up religion. New information must not contradict already-posted information, but other than that, anything goes! In the previous thread, we ended up with coffee temples and cat gods. Let's see where this one goes.

To start you off:

- Rituals take place on the dark of the moon.
- the sole of the foot is the seat of one's soul.
- It is forbidden to speak anyone's name in the ritual space.

As the sole is the seat of the soul, one must keep their feet utterly pristine at ALL TIMES, elsewise it is a reflection of having a dirty soul.

Priests in this tradition are expected to always toe the line, but never foot the bill.

Since people have two soles, they also have two souls.

Since people have two soles, they also have two souls.
The two sole souls are conceived of as a polarity: the left foot walks the path of mercy, the right foot of severity.

Only women are priests (not priestesses) in this religion, and they are addressed as "Father," but referred to by female pronouns.

Pedicures are ritual experiences, and one may not partake of the Pedicure without cleansing their soul (through confession) and washing their soles (with a foot bath).

Edit: changed 'confessing' to 'cleansing'
Remember how long you’ve been putting this off, how many extensions the gods gave you, and you didn’t use them. At some point you have to recognize what world it is that you belong to; what power rules it and from what source you spring; that there is a limit to the time assigned to you, and if you don’t use it to free yourself it will be gone and will never return. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, Book II

When entering a new home or place of work, one MUST enter left foot first, otherwise things will go poorly. Getting off on the wrong foot, as it were.

So the left foot is the right foot, and the right foot is the wrong foot. But does it change if you go to/from the UK, Australia, and Japan?

Dancing is a sacred act of worship, but those dances in which both feet leave the ground at the same time are blasphemous. Don't do the bunny hop!

On the other hand, priestly vestments must be woven and sewn by men.

Priestly vestments consist primarily of hats - the fancier and sillier looking, the higher the rank. The high priest's hat is four feet tall and requires attendants.

The attendants' hats are connected to the high priest's hat by cords of seven colors.

When entering a new home or place of work, one MUST enter left foot first, otherwise things will go poorly. Getting off on the wrong foot, as it were.

The only exception to this rule is when entering the Temple's purification entry, the Hall of Fire. One must enter the area - which the ground is lined with hot coals - with the right foot (which walks the path of severity) and during the walk, they must transition to a dance that includes the bunny hop while on the coals, not when you are leaving the coals (meaning, one cannot do a bunny hop to go from the coals to the regular floor).

It is said that doing so allows your souls to commune with one another - to experience the mercy of the cool air, and the severity of the burning coals - at the same time.
