If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

I don't look at some whore of a woman then go 'oh because that woman is a total slut- all women are sluts!' and when I try to confront the same woman that spout all that hateful stuff they say I don't count as a man because I'm gay. When did being gay mean my junk was clipped off? Last I checked it was still there.

Easy, now.  Some of my best friends are whores.  I am speaking seriously, and if more people were like them in character, this world would be a better place.

"But we're sisters because we have uteruses/uteri! BE MY SISTER. LET ME FORCE A RELATIONSHIP ON YOU."  Dude, beyond thinking "You better be fucking fertile you useless, cramp-inducing lump" at it every month or so, I do not think about my uterus, and I'm pretty happy that way.

Related to this one: Assuming all pagans are female and calling each other "sister."  This is one that struck me as odd from the very first pagan  message board I joined (in about 2002 to give a time reference).  Even if they get the gender right, I still object to someone I'm not even related to calling me "brother."  Heck, there is only one person in the entire world who could legitimacy call me that and I have a deep-seated hatred for her.  Not to mention calling co-religionist "Sister/Brother" sounds kind of cultish to me.

Another I just thought of:  Hard Recons that assume all Eclectics are fluffs who would wantonly cherry pick anything that looks cool and the fluffy Eclectics that perpetuate this assumption.  You know, some of us DO the freakin' research before worshiping X Deity or trying to incorporate X Holiday/Concept/Etc.

Oh my gods that is hilarious. Thank you for sharing.

I think my response from now on will just be "CARROTS." And then I'll flounce off.

We used to derail spam threads with recipes for spam. Will we from now on derail the selfimportant MASTERS OF DOOM with carrot recipes? I foresee a great culinary future for the cauldron.. :D:

I am reminded of a meeting of my college pagan circle, lo these many years ago.  IT was a potluck mixer, everyone's chatting and having brownies, you know, and we decide to go around in a circle and introduce ourselves--a standard "name, brief sum-up of religious path, something interesting and fun about yourself."  Everyone's going around doing the whole, "Hi!  My name's Lindsey, and I'm Wiccan, and I like ponies!" thing until we get to this one kid, who has always sort of seemed sweet and nebbishy and quiet in class.  And he's in a big black duster, and instead of his normal, soft-spoken, high-pitched voice, he intones so sepulchrally he ought to have wobbly black word bubbles:
"I am called Edward, Carrier of (something that sounded like a fantasy novel).  I have bound the spirit of Merlin--"
At which point I interject, as upbeat as possible, "Well, that's impressive, but it sounds awfully rude, binding people's spirits."
The evening moves on, but a few minutes later, he clears his throat, adjusts his spectacles, and points rather dramatically at the coffee table.  Again, he intones, spooky-doom style:
"Carrots."
I respond:  "I beg your pardon?"
"...Carrots."
"Do you...want the carrots?  ...would you like them...passed to you?"
"...yes."
"...what's the magic wo-ord?"
"...please.

Every time I hear a self-important BEHOLD I AM THE DAUGHTER OF THE MORRIGAN/BEHOLD I CARRY THE DARKNESS BORN OUT OF LIGHT Pagan kid, all I can think is, "Carrots."

I think you win the hilarious anecdotes trophy, if there is one.  That is hilarious! :)

I wasn't talking about literal prostitutes, I was talking about those who sleep around a lot. Male or female I honestly think unless you are doing it for money you shouldn't sleep around with a lot of people.

I'm curious, what do you see as the difference between sleeping around for money and doing it for pleasure?

I will politely decline to answer that. I don't need to answer everything everyone asks.

And male or female, I think if you intend to insult person A by comparison to group B, just because your target is A doesn't mean you're not also inherently disparaging B.  A lot of fine people, including members of this board, are sex workers.  Hell, some Pagan religions reserve sex work for clergy because it's holy business.  If you're trying to gain sympathy for the unfair treatment you've received, you'll probably get more sympathy from more people if you don't lash out at bystanders.  It sounds like you've been genuinely hurt, and for that you have my condolences, but it might just behoove you to consider that the kinds of moral judgments you yourself are throwing around (about sluts, or whores, or feminists, or whoever) will potentially rankle some of your audience.

Personally, I don't think that an individual has a right to impose his/her beliefs regarding something as personal as sex on anyone else. Maybe YOU shouldn't "sleep around a lot," but that doesn't mean you know what's right for anyone else. As long as a person is careful about it, I see a lot less harm in having multiple sexual partners than I see in making moral judgments about a life other than your own.

I wish I could convey just how long, awkward, and doomy the pause before "...please." was.  It's one of those stories that is even better out loud.

Unless you know that the person you sleep with has been tested and proven clean of STDs there really isn't anything out that can make something like that completely safe. I didn't say it out of morality but out of general health concern. Of course there are many with jobs that involve health risk, as long as they protect themselves the best that they can I can't knock them for it. I will always be bothered by someone taking risks with their health though. Please don't assume my reasons are because of moral beliefs- unless you consider health concerns a risk. I generally prefer it when people try to care for their health. The current replies I have gotten to what I said is why I will no longer reply to those replying to this. I don't feel like getting people huffed up, or wanting to think of nothing but an accidental misuse of one word, or people assuming that I said it because of some belief that it is morally wrong. Generally after I nearly lost my leg to cancer health became a lot more important to me. The point of my first post in this thread in the first place had nothing to do with those who are loose. I was using it as an example, basically saying a person shouldn't look at one person then think the entire gender is like this one person.
