If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Holy Product placement. I mean, it's CALLED "Christian Mingle". I can't wait for the reviews.

Unlucky in love woman pines to meet THE ONE Joins an online dating service (Spoiler: It's Christian Mingle) and then meets THE ONE. The snag? He's Christian, she isn't. She lies about it, he discovers the lie. Think he'll ever forgive her? New cases of diabetes suddenly quadruple.

I'd rather see "OK Cupid".  Ten times the hilarity with 50% more dick pics!

Seconded! I think everyone who's used Okcupid has wacky stories from it.

Ah, dick pics, where would we be without you?

Does that mean that Christian Mingle is a RomCom, and OK Cupid is a porno?

(Side note: I just mispelled porno as 'pornk.' This may become personal slang.

Yes, nothing more hilarious than the 'desperation' of a young, good looking white woman with a succesful career who is in such a state of societal 'fail' that she has to lie about something as fundamental as a core belief in order to find the only thing that makes her worthwhile: the love of a good (christian) man.

I think I'll give it a miss.

I thought it looked cute until it looked like she had a conversion experience as a result of meeting the guy and getting involved in Christianity. Her need for a husband brings her to the Lord, and finally her life has meaning and purpose now that she has a man and goes to church. There's definitely an underlying agenda to this movie.

Agreed. If she does convert, which the clip of her standing awe-inspired in the sunshiney sanctuary suggests she will, I think it's sad that her spiritual journey hinges on her relationship with some guy.

My (very Christian and single) best friend is really going to want to see this one, and I do wish I lived close enough to go see it with her, because even if the woman's journey is based on her relationship with some guy, it seems like a pretty decent depiction of a "non-believer". In Christian media they're often depicted as extremely arrogant at best, and sometimes downright evil.

I don't get why this is sad.

I've had lots of friends find their spiritual paths via me. Sometimes meeting someone of a certain faith and learning about that faith (or just learning what they believe, if they're not part of an organized religion) can be the catalyst for one's own spiritual journey.

Is it only sad because the relationship is romantic in nature? Why does that distinction matter?

One of my exes got some of his spiritual stuff via me --- and I mean, directly via me, as Brighid possessed me to talk to him. I don't know what he's done with the info, but he did tell me I was the source for a lot of spiritual change in his life.

Humans aren't islands. We rely on interactions with other people. My journey to my faith, today, would not have happened if I hadn't met other people and learned about their faiths; wouldn't have happened without those people-shaped catalysts. A great deal of my faith hinges on my relationship with my mother -- is that sad, too? A great deal of my spiritual journey hinges on TC -- is that also sad?

Or would it only be sad if I'd come to my spirituality via a boyfriend?

To me, it's sad if she converts *for the sole purpose of* staying with the guy -- in other words, if the spiritual journey is not genuine, and she's only going through the motions because that's the way to get the guy she's desperate for.

But that's just my interpretation. And I'd feel that way about anyone faking anything just to get someone to love them.

I wouldn't say it's sad, just suspicious because it's produced by a religious dating site that is basically advertising itself by making it look like people can get everything they want in life when they find Jesus.

I actually had kind of a similar experience (except it was with OKCupid lol) where I met someone who was very involved with the Anglican church, and I got more interested and involved as a result. It wasn't about getting him to like me, since I had already been going to church with my grandmother, it was something I was slowly exploring on my own and meeting someone with a shared interest just gave me a big push. I'm not with him anymore, but I'm still involved in church communities (very liberal ones :P). The trailer makes it look like the woman just pretends to be Christian to get a guy to like her and then ends up finding purpose in life from getting involved in Christianity. It just seems like Christian Mingle is promoting themselves by telling people their dreams can come true if they come to Jesus and join their site.

Didn't the cannibal cop meet his wife through OKCupid? So. It could be a horror movie!

I didn't realize it was an actual dating site! Funny thing, though. I have a firefox add-on called 'Web of Trust' that shows by the colour of it's symbol whether a site is trustworthy or not and it got a 'fail'.

I didn't click it.

What's I find sad isn't the idea of letting others influence one's spiritual life, but the depiction of it in the trailer. The emphasis is on the relationship and the spiritual development (which gets ~1 clip) is sidelined in favor of the romance. It's not sad that her relationship with someone else has introduced her to new ideas, but it's sad it has to be tacked on to the end. I presume it's being tacked on in order to make her worthy of the ultimate goal, which is the man. Am I right in thinking this usually happens in romantic comedies? The main character usually goes through some kind of personal transformation, the narrative goal of which is to make them a match for the romantic interest?

I think it's sad that in this case it's her spirituality which is being commodified. I think it's sad in all cases when a character's growth and development are only represented in the narrative as a means to make them more appealing to a romantic interest. I don't disapprove of the character, but I do disapprove of the way she's being represented by the writer.
