Not in July.  I had to watch the fireworks from my living room because we've had a heat warning for people with heart conditions for most of a week now.  I much prefer the winter.  When it is actually freezing out I can move and breathe much better.

(Luckily I live near the waterfront and always have a good view of fireworks without going outside)

I don't know about the sensible, enlightened part. Stephen Harper is our Prime Minister, after all.

I didn't do anything patriotic, but I did attend the Pride Parade, which happened to be on Canada Day.

And yes, on the enlightenment!  Harper is pretty terrible, but as an American expat his awful barely raises a blip on my batshit-o-meter.

From what I've read about Harper, he's a mild loon compared to the loons in US politics.
