Did anyone remember the Equinox?
« on: March 26, 2020, 06:51:22 pm »
It was last week.  :o We've all had other things on our minds, but did anyone take a moment to celebrate the start of Spring?

I have not done that since I was a teen, but this year I completely forgot about it.

Mostly because I do not feel connected to nature anymore.

We were not planning on a group equinox ritual, because I was supposed to be out of town for a work trip last week (and travel takes a lot out of me, plus the flight times were awful), but we did protection eggs for the full moon at the beginning of the month. (Details at the bottom of that week's "witch in practice" blog post and easily adapted to health needs as well as protection.)

There's also a 'senior initiates in the tradition' ritual that needs to happen by around the equinox, which I did on Saturday, and which definitely felt like a shift in the energies in that particular way (even though the ritual is not a seasonal cycle thing.)

For sure! I went into the garden at the exact moment of equinox and rang the garden bell three times, did a meditation, drank in the spring air. Not much, but something.

And on the first full day of spring that followed, it was warm enough that I spent the day working from the garden, and played my traditional spring kickoff music (Vivaldi's "Spring" from the Four Seasons; Nino Rota's soundtrack to Zeffirelli's film version of Romeo & Juliet; and Copland's Appalachian Spring in its entirety).

Nothing more organized than that, but that has less to do with the COVID crisis than with the fact that I still haven't figured out a good way to celebrate the equinoxes.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Our coven circle was already cancelled in advance(we even have festivals in May cancelled as well). I knew on the day, but it was the same day we were all laid off our jobs and were waiting PM announcements and worried about writing quick CV's.

I instead observed it on Sunday taking a drive to Witche's Hill/Hill of the Hag (Sliabh na Cailliní) in Loughcrew which is aligned to the Equinox. It was a nice day. Brilliant weather.

I updated my desktops (I try to keep them seasonal), and my altars, but I didn't end up doing anything beyond that.  I meant to...but then yeah, that didn't happen.

It was a bit of a fraught day for me, as my mother was pressuring me to return to my country of origin due to border closures, and when I said I was staying put there was some strife between us.

However, I did manage to get outside and take a (socially distanced) walk in nature, and a few days later I observed the passing of Saturn into Aquarius.

I actually did! The Spring Equinox is probably the only one I ever remember to celebrate :P Me and my friend baked cookies, painted, I made my signature Ostara quiche and she made bannock. It was a really good weekend! The weather has been beautiful the week, so I've really been in the spring mood.

I finished planting the main patio garden bed.  I want to put a small shrine in there eventually.

I gave it a moment of thought during the day, which was all I could manage at the time.

And my friend & I then met for tea on equinox new moon (while still observing social distancing, by sitting at either end of the garden wall with our cups of tea which we'd each brought from home (as we're lucky enough to live in the same road)).

I hope to be doing something with green and growing things this weekend, too.
