Autumn/September equinox plans (planning ahead)
« on: August 31, 2020, 08:04:41 am »
As mentioned in this thread my thoughts are turning to autumn, so I'm thinking about the autumn equinox.  I wondered whether anyone has started making any plans yet?

Ordinarily my friend and I would often make a trip to Avebury stone circle, but we'll probably see about that a bit nearer the time.  Even if we don't do that, we'll probably try to come up with some way to get together and mark the occasion.

Other than that, I'll likely come back and add any further plans I come up with to this thread over time.  Look forward to hearing what others think they'll get up to for the equinox.

I don't know what I will be able to do for the equinox. I live with two Catholic parents (who do accept my religion). I am busy a lot. However, I try to decorate with pumpkins and make something for it like a pumpkin bread or apple bread. Something like that.

Oo those dishes both sound good.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't even thought about the equinox mostly due to a hectic work schedule (school opening was delayed in NYC, students start remotely Sept 16, and we go to hybrid learning Sept 21). I know I should plan something for me and the Gods, but I don't even know what to do for it (Sept 22, a Tuesday). I *might* just take that weekend and use it as a celebration and break for me.

Coven life means I am sort of forced to at least pretend to have a plan for some things well in advance, so we actually had our planning conversation last week.

Remote ritual via Zoom, so we have some simple divination planned, a short meditation, and then having made a seasonal food, talking about it. (I'm still deciding what I'm going to make.)

My birthday is Mabon proper (the 22nd), and I'm still deciding what I'm going to do for that. It's too early in the school year for me to feel okay taking a day off (since we support teachers, even in this especially weird year.) I suspect roasting a chicken is involved, honestly, because it's one of my favourite bits of kitchen magic (roast your chicken, make magic. Make really good stock, continued magic. Make soup eventually, even more so. Get a wishbone as a bonus.) But I may do something fancier than usually roasting a chicken. (This is not hard: my usual approach is very minimal.)

I didn't know you were a Brit :) Perhaps, in happier times, I will see you at Avebury.

I'm still in the process of defining my annual festival cycle for my WIP Trad, so like the other festivals, I'll be breaking out my collaged collection of films, music, books and symbolism which I associate with this time, and meditating on them, trying to work to a closer understanding of what is present, and towards creating a "permanent form" for the festival.

I always look back through my notes for every other time I've celebrated it (I don't make full notes, but usually enough to spark some memories) and I find that meaningful, an awareness of passing time and autumn memories.

Yes indeed, and that would actually be awesome, as you say in happier times!

My friend and I ended up spending an hour together on Friday, after she gave me a lift back home from work, and we did a couple of little readings she'd selected, had some 'harvest' related discussion and a wee bit of meditation by gazing into a candle flame (my favourite).  It was actually very nice, though I wish we'd had a little more time (as I'd forgotten to let my husband know of my proposed movements that day, so had to cut things a little bit short).

As I write I'm sat on the (communal) front lawn of our apartment block taking a late lunch break in what remains of a bit of sunshine today.  Once I put down my mini-keyboard I will sit quietly for a bit to see if I can meditate upon some birdsong/sounds and just relax.

I may try and think of something I can do after work this evening too - I've got an idea in my mind for a craft activity, but not sure I have all the materials I'd need.

I can't decide whether to hang my autumn leaves wreath yet or not (still clinging to the idea of a spell of late summer, but it may be that we've had all we're getting over the past week or so!)  I will certainly hang it by the end of September, if not today.

Anyone else?  What have you been up to today, in the end?

Though it didn't have anything to do with the equinox, I did go to see my financial advisor today.
