Khernips

I've been looking over the use of khernips in ritual cleansing, both for a ritual space and personally and there seems to be a lot of variations. Hearth flame extinguished in spring water, or tap water, herbs mixed with water, using sea salt, even simply using a purification benediction over the water.

It made me wonder what the Hellenes on here use personally and/or think is most effective/historically accurate.

Also, I'm lucky enough to have a natural spring in my town and was wondering if it would be appropriate to use water from it, straight from the rock?

I use salted tapwater usually, and drop burning bay leaves into it   Cleansing is not something I take lightly, and I Always carry the means to prepare khernips with me when I go anywhere.  

if I'm driving and can't pull off the road to prepare khernips and cleanse, then I may rarely share my thoughts anyway, depending on the situation, and then cleanse thoroughly and make apologetic offerings as soon as possible.  

It really depends on which deitys you share thoughts with, and the situation in question, but yes, sometimes they may choose to listen anyway.

I use ordinary tap water and table salt.  I haven't yet got the impression that Aphrodite is bothered by this.

For the sake of simplicity, I do this as well. I sometimes use the sink table as an impromptu altar, for instance when it's too damn cold outside to do sacred work at the deck table, or when working at the hearth it not appropriate for the situation. The tap works well enough for me as a 'flowing water source'.
