"Rethinking Greek Religion" by Julia Klindt
« on: January 03, 2013, 05:24:56 pm »
Has anyone read Julia Kindt's "Rethinking Greek Religion"? I'm wondering if it's worth buying, but there are no customer reviews on Amazon or BN.com. I see that she's a classics professor, but I can't say I'm familiar with her other work.

I can't find much on the book anywhere. :(

That's exactly the problem I'm having. :/ It looks like it's relatively new (I'm seeing an Aug. 2012 pub date on Barnes and Noble) so maybe it just hasn't gotten much attention yet?

That can be true. It can take forever for academic reviews to appear.

You might check out the author a bit.   on the Delphic Oracle on YouTube.  Doesn't necessarily tell you about this particular book, but you can at least get a general idea of whether or not she's a fruit loop.  ;)

ETA:  Some of her academic papers you might be able to track down.

*looks it up*

Seriously, this is an academic book, from a university press, at that price? That's a steal, I'd say if you find the articles Yewberry linked fascinating, why not pick it up?

That is a really great point; it is awful cheap. I'm just really broke right now — I have a gift card, but it's all I have for a month or two for "fun money" so I want to make sure I get the best possible use out of it, lol. I did download the free sample and it seems pretty interesting, so I'll probably end up grabbing it.

Thanks for the heads up on the book. I can't wait to check it out once I'm done with my current stack.

:) I hope it's a good one! I ended up buying it after all, but it'll probably be a few weeks before I can begin it.

Pleas let us know what you think of the book (and why) when you get a chance to finish it.
