I asked my dr if i could see a nutritionist  but she said i cant see one because my BMI  is too big my bmi ( body mas index ) is 40  i need a BMI of 17

BMI is 17, you can see a nutritionist.  But if BMI is 'too high,' you can't.

That just seems all manner of counterintuitive.

Yeah, that definitely doesn't seem right!

If you'd like help finding resources I can see what I can find online. I found a few good sites just googling "UK Eating Disorders" and "Scotland Eating Disorders" but I wasn't sure what you'd already seen. At the very least there should be online support groups for this sort of thing. Others would be more versed in this than I am.

Quoting Sage, but addressing DarkAsylum:

Because the ED awareness/rights community is fairly closely connected to the Fat Acceptance community online, I can give some suggestions in the way of online support. These aren't 'support groups' in the usual sense, they're blogs, but I know these are highly-regarded among folks with EDs as being supportive. They're written by people who've been there, know what a rough ride it can be, and have lots of useful things to say about it (and they're not afraid to speak out about ways the medical community is sometimes full of shit about EDs).

Carrie Arnold's ED Bites
Laura's Soap Box
Tetyana's Science of Eating Disorders (I'm not sure if Tetyana has 'been there' personally, but she is a scientist and does a great job of examining current ED research)
Hariet Brown's Feed Me! is no longer being updated, but it's still online as an archive.

Those are just a select few, but you can find others through them (and will be better able to avoid the horrendous self-esteem-killing 'thinspiration' sites that sometimes pretend to be support for the people with EDs but are actually support for the disorders:sick::mad:).

And do check out some of the links provided earlier in this thread, and in its original incarnation on the archive forum (you'll find a direct link in the first post in this thread); quite a few FA bloggers also write about EDs - and even when they don't, the fat acceptance themes will likely help you to gain a new perspective on yourself. In particular, I recommend The Fat Nutritionist - she won't be a replacement for the nutritionist counselling you're trying to get a referral for, but you'll probably learn a lot about eating, and un-learn quite a few misconceptions that may be getting in your way.

Threadbump, because this thread should remain easy to find.
