Abandon soft drinks!

I buy carbonated water and add my own flavoring - often just lime juice, sometimes a dash of Sodastream syrup. This way I can control how much sugar is in it, since bottled sodas taste much too sweet to me.

Also I'm a weirdo who likes the taste of plain carbonated water.

Basically, vegetarian/vegan junk food exists for the same reason as meaty junk food...

...which might seem odd if you think of vegetarianism as a health thing. You have to remember that the vast majority of the world's vegetarians are east-asians and south-asians who abstain from meat for religious reasons, and that in the western world, lots of vegetarians avoid meat for ethical reasons and not health.

Fair point. I'm mostly familiar with it through North American "Health" culture. (I could also go on about my exasperation with "superfoods".)

Elderflower or nettle cordial are my catnip.

Honestly, me too! If It wasn't prohibitively expensive, it's probably the only non-alcoholic drink I would drink.

Is it expensive where you are? Here I can get a store-brand 2L bottle for like 99 cents; I usually buy 1L bottles (same price) so I can finish it before it goes flat. Mind you I only buy one a week, the rest of the time I drink tea and tap water.

Here, the store brand is sold in cans. A pack costs twice as much as a same-sized package of soda. I can buy it once a week, but I have to drink the (horrible) Kentucky tap water the rest of the time.

I don't care what the CDC says about tap water safety, they're either lying or naive.

I actually collected data for a study my university conducted on the quality of Eastern Kentucky drinking water, and I've seen the results with my own two eyes. There's all sorts of nasty chemical and organisms in our water around here. Lead? Yep. Naegleria fowleri? That too. Birth control medicine? You bet!

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Kentucky's water doesn't contribute to the low life expectancy in the region. For reference, the average in Eastern KY is about 70, as opposed to the national average of 78 and the state average of 79! Take a look at this map:

https://kyhealthnews.blogspot.com/2016/06/kentucky-life-expectancy-is-76-years.html

I know I for a bit off topic, but I really detest the low health standards around here. Kentucky is a nice place, no matter what our governor might say about us, or what pop culture might tell you; folks are polite and charitable, the scenery is gorgeous, the food and music are nice, the religion is sincere, but it does have one problem; poverty.

Abandon soft drinks!

In the USA, there's no sugar tax, but they still don't use cane sugar, because corn sugar is cheaper, and I hate how it tastes. So, I've stopped drinking soda except occasionally, I drink imported soda from Latin America, which does usually have cane sugar.

Kosher for Passover soda uses real sugar too, but is of course very seasonal.

That's messed up. It has next to no ingredients!

That's terrible about Kentucky's infrastructure. Not that Ontario's record is that great either, especially up north.
