I was at the grocery store on Wednesday and some strange patterns were emerging.

- Frozen veg: gone. Picked veg (beets, sauerkraut etc): fully stocked.
- Chicken: very low. Sausage and ham: mounds of it.
- Canned veg: gone, except for an untouched flat of yellow string beans. Does nobody like them?
- Canned pasta: cleared out. Canned fish, right next to it: normal stocks.
(I didn't check out the flour, because I got a bag before shit hit the fan, but my mom said it was sold out when she went ... but there's no shortage of prepared bread yet. ???)

I saw pretty much what you saw, i.e. patterns of weirdness...

No chicken. Lots of beef and pork. Keep the beef, I'm a freakin' Hindu. Though I do have my lapses, hypocritically. :P
Lots of butter (everyone is watching their cholesterol?).
No shredded cheeses.
Freezers were empty.. no pizzas, no Weight Watchers dinners (really, "Karen"?), no frozen anything.
No beans or lentils. No body eats lentils for fark sakes!
Last week the small mesh bags of onions were not to be had. Onions? Seriously?

The best way to summarize my shopping trips is with "Are you f**king kidding me?" at every shelf and display. I mean, cooking spray?

Our store had potatoes this week!  (and how weird is it to be saying stuff like that....)

Our town is also starting a "non-essential businesses are closed" today at 8pm.  Only retail though, so hubby is still working (gotta print those coupons and magazines...or something).  I figure it's only a matter of time before we get the "only go outside if necessary" order.

And we've had taters ("What's taters, Precious. What's taters?") all along, coming out our noses, in fact.

Stores have been closing by 6-8 pm. That "bhenchod" (the only really filthy word in Hindi I know lol) in Trenton put a lockdown as of Saturday 9 pm, but there are people, including yours truly who is at his work desk typing this, out and about. But the malls are closed, and virtually all eateries are closed except for take-out. The bookstores in the chain I work for are closing. The distribution center where I work in IT is open. DCs are considered essential businesses.

I'm seeing in NJ people on FB calling for "martial law" and arresting people who venture outside. And put them where? The jails are already overcrowded. There's talk of early or other release for some inmates. Idiots... martial law is a federal function and requires deployment of military troops on American soil, largely forbidden by the Posse Comitatus Act.

Unfortunately, we've raised a generation of voters (I hesitate to call them "Americans" or "citizens") who see nothing wrong with banning 'offensive' speech, among other things which display complete ignorance of our history and legal traditions...
