« on: October 21, 2016, 08:33:00 am »
Does anyone know of any alternative remedies to help someone cope with the harsh side effects of chemotherapy?

Thanks

Look into cold caps. Chilling the scalp during chemo has been shown to help preserve one's hair.

It will depend on the cocktail of drugs they are on.

There is no substitute here for a properly qualified medical herbalist and even then you'd need to check with the oncologist whether taking or using anything is safe. As most natural remedies won't have been tested against chemo regimes for interactions they are likely to err on the side of caution and recommend against it.

Ginger in all forms for nausea-the candy is great to hold on the mouth and help during very bad bouts.  250 mg taken 4 times a day ok capsules or liquid can help keep vomiting at bay.

Green tea can help if their unit art tract has been affected.

Anything in specific?

She hasn't started treatment as yet, so nothing specific that I know about - but chemo was the one treatment she really didn't want to have to undergo and we're trying to keep her spirits up as best we can.

Thanks for the replies so far.  Further comments welcomed, too.

What about crystals (for those that believe in them)?

As long as it's in conjunction with chemo/radiation/surgery/etc, I don't see why crystals can't be serve as treatment companions.

I use them sometimes and coming up with an efficient 'blend' is sometimes a pain in the butt.

For something as fear-wrought as cancer, I think my first move would be a nice fat chunk of something like black obsidian. I keep several pieces around and call them my 'black holes' as they are pretty voracious consumers of fear, painful feelings, and suchlike.

Fear makes people behave and react unpredictably, so I tend not to do anything more until it's been brought down enough to really evaluate the situation.

Thank you - I might see if I can buy something in black obsidian, as the family member in question is still currently having the chemo.
