Questions for Brythonic (Welsh) Pagans
« on: June 06, 2012, 08:11:55 am »
I know there are at least a few other folks on TC who follow the ways of the British Celts rather than (or in addition to) the Gaels. For the sake of convenience I usually abbreviate what I do as 'Welsh Paganism' though that's an anachronism since Wales didn't exist as a country until into the Christian era.

Source materials are pretty thin on the ground for us and I feel like we're often outnumbered by our Irish- and Scottish-tradition kin, so I'd love to share a group brain-pick.

Questions for discussion....

1. Who do you feel are the important deities of your pantheon? Are there any with Whom you are particularly close?
2. Do you honour particular land and/or house spirits? Ancestors?
3. If you make offerings, what sort?
4. What inspired you to seek out a British path?
5. Do you follow strictly 'Welsh' deities or are you more pan-Celtic?
6. Do you celebrate all 8 festivals on the Neopagan WotY? Do you incorporate any folk customs like Morris dancing?
7. How do you feel about the Mabinogion as a source of information about Brythonic deities? Do you think it preserves much Pagan lore, or is it largely an invention of Christian scribes? How comfortable are you with using it as a source of information, or of inspiration? (This is, of course, assuming that the Mabinogion figures into your practice at all.)
8. What do you hold to be important virtues or ethical foundations in your practice, and are there any you consider to be specific to this path? (I'm always a little envious of the Heathens and their Nine Noble Virtues. Such a tidy code of honour!)

1. I would say the most important to me are Amaethon, Cerridwen, Don, Beli, Arianhrod, Govannon, Gwyddion. I am very close to Amaethon & Cerridwen.

2. I do honor my ancestors, and also try to honor any land spirits as well.

3. I try and offer grain of some sort, milk, beer or wine.

4. Probably my ancetsors being from Britain, mainly from Wales & Scotland.

5. I am follow only Welsh or Brythonic Deities.

6. No, I only celebrate in full, the 4 Celtic High days.

7. The Mabinogion is a great book and I find a lot of inspiration from it. I know most of it was written after Christianity had come to Britian so I take a lot of it with a grain of salt.

8. I try to uphold virtues such as, honoring the Gods, my family, my ancestors and the land.
