H&O Project: Resources
« on: July 27, 2011, 11:13:47 am »
On the old board, we had a very short-lived beginning of the Hazel & Oak Resource List on TCN. Here at our shiny new board, we will be kickstarting the project as soon as we have the software available to us. :)

I thought I'd share some notes on the project, so that members of the SIG could chime in!

  • The SIG Resource will be located on a WordPress blog set up specifically for the SIG! While the Wiki was initially considered for the project, a WP blog will have much better searching capabilities and the tagging feature.
  • The site will compile books, websites and more and categorize them in a number of ways (lists subject to expand!):
    • culture (Breton, Cornish, Gaulish, Manx, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh, as well as the broader categories of Continental, Insular and pan-Celtic)
    • topic (archaeology, art, folklore, history, language, literature, music, and mythology)
    • approach (Christian, Christo-pagan, Druidic, Demi-Recon, Recon, Romantic, Syncretic, and Wiccan)
    • author, alphabetically by surname
    • title, alphabetically
    • and others, like annotated texts, translations, and pieces produced by academic presses
  • The site will also compile firsthand accounts by Celtic practitioners about their paths and experiences, to better help seekers and non-Celts get an honest experience and understanding of Celtic religions.
  • And there's more! :) We will also compile books, websites, and personal accounts on the many many gods that make up the Celtic pantheons, as well as other entities of Celtic persuasion a practitioner might happen to encounter.
So! That's the goal- it'll take a while to fully implement, and we'll need your help. We have a massive list of books to sort through, but once we have things up and running, we'll be opening threads specifically for online resources and your contributions. Comments, questions, rotten fruit? (I'll be hiding behind Finn on sight of the lattermost!) ;)

General opinion on organization: using categories for general topics (as in the different cultures, personal accounts, approaches, topics) and then tags for more specifics (gods, authors, titles, etc) would probably be a good way to go about it.

So a post on a myth about Brighid from a demi-recon approach would be these categories: Culture: Irish, Approach: Demi-Recon, Topic: Folklore; tags Deity: Brighid, Title: Title of book or academic article referenced, Author: author of referenced book/article.

My $.02. Feel free to shoot me down/modify my ideas. Whatever. :)
Pray drunk. Hex sober.

Rotten vegetables are acceptable too. I'll need a stockpile to ambush Juni with--ER, what? I didn't say anything. :D:
