Goddess Freya?

Or Freyja? I was wondering if there were any good books or information on her. She's a goddess I'm interested in worshipping.

She's probably the best known/attested goddess in Norse myth, so you're in luck! This is just a couple of things off the top of my head, if you ask in the Asatru and Heathenry SIG you'll probably find more suggestions.

or information.

I had a life changing vision (I'm talking St. Paul in Damascus worthy) involving the Goddess Freya when I was 15 that I'll share if you want. Before I describe it I thought I should give some caveats:

I'd taken a heroic dose of shrooms months before (and someone slipped another hallucinogenic on me, two if you count the E) and given a vision I had on the shrooms I feel pretty certain shrooms released from my fat (as I sometimes went days barely eating anything, especially as I was extremely upset over something at the time as well as living on the streets as a runaway without adult supervision) facilitated this vision, and was probably further stoked by the fact I really needed an adult right then and Freya was just perfect in both what I could accept and what I NEEDED.

That doesn't mean I think it's false, mind you, but if that's a problem for you then let me know and I won't bother to describe the vivid experience that changed my life.

That said, I'd find out years later that Granny woke up from a horrible nightmare of me choking to death and it was so vivid that she prayed fervently to Jesus for my sake (she's a pretty cool Christian, believes what Jesus said about the Pharisees now applies to most churches, especially the Christian Right). She'd called the next day but Mom told her I didn't want to speak to her and I was shocked to hear of that...and then realized that when I came back from the streets I'd asked if Granny had called and she said no, and that Granny said I was Mom's responsibility now. She'd lied to both of us! (To keep her child support which she feared she'd lose if I was declared missing.)

Asking her more about it I realized this was right about (and I believe at the exact moment) I had my vision of Freya!

I also liked what she said when I asked her if she'd visit my heaven (as her god seemed a lot more "exclusive" than Freya) and she laughed, saying, "You'll see your trappings and I'll see mine, but we'll still be together and love each other." Again, she's a really cool Christian.

And for what it's worth her side of the family is Swedish and I've been able to trace my family back to settlers who were born in Sweden with surnames like Solberg (like Granny) and Thorsson being prominent even today.  And though my Dad's side is Scots-Irish, they include a surname that was said to have originally been Scandinavian settlers who married in and assimilated so I'd have a lot of Scandinavian blood in me. Some believe that this also promoted why I had a vision of Freya and believe my vision legitimate for it, whereas if I'd come from a Greek family I'd have had a vision of Artemis instead. (Not saying I subscribe to the "soul is the blood" theory, especially given how much the genes got mixed around the world over thousands of years by means fair and foul so that I can't see how it would matter, just letting you know in case it matters to you.)

Finally, I'd never been that interested in mythology and knew almost nothing of Freya when I had my vision, but I did a lot of reading after and it seemed to fit. I talked to a gythia (an Asatru priestess) a couple of years later and she shared others who had similar experiences with similar messages (and 2nd edition Drawing Down the Moon has a chapter on it, focused more on Odin, that described something similar, what one called a wind through the world tree) so she definitely thought I'd experienced something real.

Would you like to hear of it?

During the last weeks I also searched for information about her. Unfortunately, a lot of lists about matching herbs, colors and so on seemed without any relation to me. So I just decided to reflect about the tales in which she is mentioned, since this seems to be the most reliable information. That's for example how I decided to chose cats and hawks as her totems.

As for other things like matching colors and so on, I trust my own interpretation (rather than anyone others, even if that anyone has written a dozen books about his way of honoring Freya ;) ). Many authors say Freyas color is silver or red, but for me the only matching one is gold and copper.

Just be sure to have a good knowledge about Freyas myths, then choose the things to place on her shrine or whatever you dedicate to her by considering what she might like based on what you already know about her.
