Spiritual Confusion: I Think I'm a Yo-yo
« on: March 07, 2015, 02:24:35 pm »
Quick back story- in the last few months, I've been going through a bit of a 'rethink' of the way I was living my life. In the process of this general 'rethink', which has led me off down some very good roads, I ended up dropping Saule and the Baltic gods for a time while I looked into Kemetism.

At this point, it's been a few months, and Kemetism has... sort of stuck? I'm still working into it, but I'm not practicing yet.

The thing is, I think Saule's still hanging around. I'm not completely certain, though, because any encounters are very, very brief. Admittedly, I'm kind of hoping she's still around, because I enjoyed working with her.

I guess I'm just a little confused as to what to do from here? I'm mostly just sitting and waiting for something to happen. So... any thoughts, comments, or "I've been there"'s would be really helpful.

Thanks so much! :)

I don't know how much this will relate to your specific situation, but Kiya's excellent essay On Eclecticism will likely provide, at minimum, some general reassurance, and perhaps some practical help as well.

Welp, I'm a Kemetic who needs to figure out Perkunas, so. ;)

I suggest keep doing the work that works for you and see what happens from there.  At least that's what I'm trying to do, with occasional fits of I cannot do the work, augh.

I've been there! :P Heh. I think I'm a spiritual yo-yo too, mostly this time it's like the yo-yo got flipped around and upside down but is somehow still functioning.

Basically, Kiya had great advice, the best thing to do is keep trucking on and see what happens. I don't see any reason why you can't still work with Saule, and be a kemetic at the same time.

This.

Maybe looking at *why* you "dropped" Saule and why you might want to return to Her (instead of or in addition to Kemeticism) would help you think through this?

Thank you! It seems to relate quite well, actually, since I'm looking at practicing some sort of syncretism at some point. :)

Thanks. :) I'll keep chugging then. I'm thinking about starting daily libations to Saule again, with an ear out of course.

Lol! :P I know the feeling. At least you're still moving, though.

Well, what I  think I'm looking at is some form of blend of the Baltic deities and a handful of Egyptian ones, with Saule kinda in the center. I think what I'm wondering is whether that's possible? How one would go about such a thing?

I know it's been done before; I'm just at a loss as to how I do it.

Hmm. I think... I think it was because I felt lonely worshiping the Baltic gods. I know there are others who do so, but I've rarely come across any. It probably sounds silly, but I want/ed community within my religious practice. Plus, I really like Egyptian gods, so... Kemetism.

On the other hand, I miss Saule, and I liked the Baltic Pantheon around her. Hence why I'm- at the moment- vaguely confused.

As an universalist pagan one can easily solve this problem, seeing as Saule is the personified sun and kemeticism has the sun as being very important in its spirituality, especially as a feminine force (Ra's "eye", the true body of the sun, is a feminine deity, often syncretised with Sekhmet, Isis or whatever other relevant goddesses, and Aten is an hemaphroditical deity just as often assumed to be female as male).

If you see Saule as a cultural specific sun deity, simply apply kemetic practises to her, probably to the exclusion of kemetic solar deities.

Are you looking to blend deities from both pantheons into one pantheon with consistent practices, or are you looking simply to have a mix from the two that you personally worship?  What you do will be different depending on what you want to build.

I am mainly Kemetic, but I have some non-Kemetic deities I worship/work with/am-given-impossible-tasks-by.  For example, I do puja for Ganesha and offer him milk and sweets but do not do this for my other gods.  He also has a separate shrine.  This works well for me, but I am not trying to blend the worship of Ganesha with the worship of Kemetic deities, or even other non-Kemetic ones.

Thank you. That's a good idea; I just don't think Saule would like that. She's not an Eye of Re and I'm not certain she'd appreciate me acting like she was; and in any case, I'm uncomfortable with the idea of acting like she's a Kemetic deity by worshiping her as such.

If I understand this right, I'm looking for a mix. I'd be uncomfortable trying to coax the deities from either pantheon into a single practice, especially since the last time I tried to use the bottle I used for Saule's worship for Kemetic practice, I got a quiet "No, don't do that." (Honestly, I didn't even know she considered the bottle Hers until then.)

-In other words, in case I confused anyone through my wording, I'd be using different practices for different deities, depending on cultural context. I've got too many recon roots to do otherwise.
