Dionysus
« on: July 18, 2011, 06:39:57 pm »
Regardless of my current and past religious affiliation I feel Dionysus has been calling me incessantly. I can imagine lines of satyrs dancing and playing flutes behind Dionysus who drunkenly stumbles through cities luring away everyone with his promise of ecstasy and joy. When I think of him I have an urge to go into a dancing frenzy and to surround myself with lovely surroundings and to listen to hypnotic drum beats. I feel welling up within me a desire to shout his names and sing without a care in the world and drop all my concerns.

Can someone give some insights into this God ?
When I think of his name I want to swing my head back and forth ecstatically and I imagine myself among his maenads and followers sharing pleasant conversation with his teacher Silenus.

What is your experience with Dionysus and can you tell explain to me what my experiences might mean ?

When I remember him I want to dive into a divine ecstasy and immerse myself in divine madness

My experience with Dionysus was rather pleasant. He's an interesting God to have around. From my experience, he seems to be patient though at times can be a frustrating guy. Not frustrating in a bad sense just frustrating in the sense he would only tell me so much and I'm stuck trying to figure the rest out. That kind of frustrating. As pleasant as he was, I was well aware he could easily become the mad and wild god he's also known as if he wanted to, but I, thankfully, never had to experience it.

Like Arcadia once said in my own topic regarding him, he takes interest in those with emotional and/or mental issues.. or people going through rough times. It may not be the same for everyone though.. but I can confirm the rough times bit. He was there when I hadn't completely fixed myself, and I think he ended up being the one who fixed me. I do know without him, I'd still be moping around about what happened and not being open about it. It was a slow process but he did eventually get me to finally admit to myself and others that I messed up while seeking and it did mess me up but it's alright. It happened. I learned from it. He was also there when my family lost our phone and internet. My father didn't like the fact I wasn't acting like everything was fine and I remember wanting help, preferably Dionysus' help, and he did come around.

It was also a progress to get it in my head that I can walk away from him. I can choose to do other things, even if it means he won't be around when I choose them. He always told me he didn't care what I did and that it was okay if I did choose another path for a while... but it never got into my head until now. So I kind of did walk away for a bit and try something different but I do know Dionysus will most likely be there if I need him.

As for your experiences.. I think you might have been smitted by Dionysus. :D Well in all seriousness, there's probably something there and it'd probably be a good idea to try and see if there's something between you two or not. It'd be worth it.
Either that or he'll come in and claim you for himself. He did that on me once. Though he might have only did that because (A) It was probably the best way to get my attention and (B) because he was a patron... at the time. He may be again, who knows? or maybe (and this is in pure jest) (C) Because he can. :P

I also suggest this site for you. It's a good resource: http://www.wildivine.org/dionysos.htm

It certainly sounds like you're smitten, as LuciaStar put it.  As for whether it's mutual - why not give in to some of those impulses and see where it takes you?

I also second her recommendation of Wild Divine, it's a beautiful site.

My own experience with Dionysos seems similar to yours - particularly in the beginning:  a bit like a wild crush, though deeper than that and with quieter moments as well.  Even now that my obsessive fan-girl inclinations have thankfully mellowed, I still feel a thrill just thinking about him.

He is a god of ecstacy, after all.  It doesn't surprise me that this would be a way he likes to introduce himself.

Like Arcadia once said in my own topic regarding him,
For the OP:  Here's a link to that other thread, in case you missed it.
