Has anyone worked with Raava?
« on: April 09, 2014, 04:34:56 am »
She is, admittedly, from the TV show The Legend of Korra, and therefore probably doesn't have a widespread following, but I have a very strong affinity for her and was wondering if anyone else knew the show and felt the same way.

I don't exactly worship anyone; I feel squicky about the word and its connotations. Any entity I feel comfortable working with goes into the situation knowing that I need an older-sibling/younger-sister relationship rather than an allmighty-divine/reverent-follower. Raava's personality really allows for that, I think. She is very human (well, as human as non-humans can be), and is very relatable when compared to the build-a-temple, make-an-offering type of entity.

Just to clarify, I don't have anything -against- that type of relationship, but it's just not for me.

With any luck, I\'ll grow up to be Nanny Ogg.

I've watched that TV show, but can't for the life of me remember who Raava is.

I do know that there are people who have worked with figures from pop culture. I don't personally, but that's just me.

Are you thinking of Raava as more archetypal, or as a real being?

There are a few pop-culture pagans/witches/whatever on TC (*waves*) but not off the top of my head anyone who works from Avatarverse. You might be better off checking the #pop culture paganism and #pop culture witchcraft tags on Tumblr; they're fairly active.

I would say probably archetypal? Or like a being who is a long distance friend; everything is kind of worlds apart between us at the moment.

Thanks both for the reference, hadn't heard of pop culture paganism! Excited to learn more!

I'm thinking about having her tattooed on my back, she's so lovely.

That would be a pretty cool tattoo, I admit.

This is a thread you might be interested in.

It also has a lot of links in it, which may or may not be useful (I haven'y checked to be sure), but it certainly brings up the idea of worshiping pop culture figures as deities, which is what you're considering with Raava and all.
